Ban Mike.

Haha. You know, when you think of the big names has regularly used black or white Strats or Teles over the years the list is massive. Just off the top of my head;

Let me split them into a good and bad list for you:

GOOD:

Joe Strummer
Jimi Hendrix
Dave Gilmour

BAD:
Richie Blackmore
Dave Murray
Eric Clapton
Jeff Beck
The Edge
Rick Parfitt
Wilko Johnson
Malmstain
John 5

The Math says Black Telecasters and Strats are shit.

He might not be hip but nonetheless Status Quo have been a worldwide success for decades.

Close, but no cigar. Gotta be double-bound for teh Sydz. Not a dream guitar without the double-binding, just a common or garden black Tele (which is by no means a bad thing, irrespective of the maths).

I have a 1999 Corona model (year before that one).
Does yours have different tuners for the E and A string? The tuners on mine for those strings have a longer shaft than the other strings, just trying to work out if they are stock or replacements.

I doubt it Mark. I'll double check in the morning. Must be replacements, everything should be uniform.
Anyway, you should be buying some Vanity Klusons and changing to a three (brass) saddle bridge by now, they will throw you off this forum otherwise. Christ, you got a Black Tele as it is, dont push your luck

And if all of those guitarists jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?

This tele isn't mine, but it's my favourite tele colour scheme.
Black pickguard bought on ebay for £6.

You missed the point, they were posted up as a statistic and for a bit of banter with Mike, i'm not a huge fan of any of them players.

Thanks Fran. I'm sure they won't cause any issues so no rush to change them.

I thought that this was normal for the newer US models? Extra 2mm break angle over the nut for the thinner strings and all...

Yeah, tapered tuning pegs are now US Standard staples. An echo of Leo's original, string tree-less vision, proportional tension etc... Fender US also did 3 low/3 normal at one point for the lead/bass strings, and the Eric Johnson Strat has all of them a different height for all of them stepping down from E to E to eliminate the need for a string tree (though the headstock also sits deeper on those for even more tension).

Here's one with the 3+3 tapering.

And the EJ Strat (note that the b and e tuners have way narrower split posts too... de-luxe)

My point was that I was being in no way serious. Probably needed an emoticon. No harm done, I guess, right?
