It's not really worth trying to tell someone that a £255 guitar is really great if they've already decided they don't believe it.
But the VM Jaguar that Stewart played was mine, as was one of the Vintage Jaguars he was playing along with it. My old Jaguar is a 1966, is all original and I love it to pieces.
However I've be talking complete bollocks if said that the Squier one doesn't play and sound fantastic (and like a Jaguar should, I'm sorry I don't buy this "it sounds a little off" corksniffery. It's a fucking Jaguar and it sounds like one).
Which one do I take to rehearsal these days? The Squier.

If it wasn't for the fact I already had a neck I wanted to use I would've bought a Squier to be my carry about guitar rather than building one up. At that price it's a total no-brainer.

Yeah...I've played a few of these Squiers now. Have owned Jags before & will certainly be buying one of these over a more expensive Fender offering in the none-too-distant.
Am I going to cover over the Squier decal? - no.
Am I going to mod it to my liking - more than likely, yes (although, this is likely to be little more than a swap-out for a mint guard & maybe a new trem for it).
Am I going to enjoy it, like the connoisseur that I am? - Fuck yeah.

That's really important with ANY budget guitar, not just these guys (even non-budget models, really, but especially budget). Speed is more important in production than consistency, always test a budget guitar before buying
The CV line are about the only Squiers I might consider just buying, but you're also paying more for them. I wouldn't buy a Mexican, nor even an American Fender without testing, but I would a Japanese.

Too true. I've owned some right pigs when it comes to vintage gear, on the other hand some of it is almost magical.
Part of the problem for me has been vintage gear has become almost too valuable to take to the average Pub Gig, unless you want to babysit it all night. Stewarts suggestion of using the Squier for touring is common sense, many artists leave their vintage and collectible for the studio and writing.
