Bought the Squier Jay Mascis Jazzmaster and was so impressed with it that I had to have the sparkly purple one to go with it, so no VM's for me for now.

How would you compare teh spangly purple one with the squier? Would you say the neck profile is thinner, thicker, or the same as the squier?

Love my squier

Hmmm? Well the fret board radius is 9.5" on the Squier and 7.25" on the MIJ. I prefer the 9.5", but get along ok with the 7.25". They are both "C" shape necks. I'll measure them for thickness, when I get a chance, but it will likely be next week before I can.

That would be cool man, cheers. I've always loved the look of the purple mascis. Which one do you prefer?

The purple one is dazzling and I love her looks the best, but my left hand prefers the Squier, for leads, for her 9.5" radius fingerboard and the purple one for playing chords with her 7.25" board. Both are outstanding instruments. The purple one has a thinner, edgier more jangly sound if that makes since, and the Squier has a fat middle, with nice bottom, and bell like highs.

OK, so having seen one of each in my local shop (FINALLY), I thought about this thread again, as for a short second the idea sparked that maybe I do want one.

In short, while they were all beautiful instruments (in particular the Jag in surf green), there is no way I'll ever buy one of these because they all come factory equipped with 9's. NINES. On a 24" scale.

I have no way of knowing if a guitar is good if it's set up with NINES and no shop is just going to give a $300 guitar a setup with a proper string gauge just for me to try. The pickups all sounded awful. NO FUCKING SHIT they sounded awful, because I had plinky strings that did not react to what my hands were doing. It sounded thin, dull and lifeless. I'm referring to both the Jag and the Jazzmaster, while the Mustang was my favorite of the three unplugged, I didn't bother trying it plugged in after the first two travesties.

Maybe one day I'll come across a used one with upgraded pickups and it'll already be set up with 11s and play well enough in the store to make me buy it. But until that day, I'm not taking a $300 gamble just because a guitar is pretty.

I just picked this up at GC today during lunch. The neck is really nice and smooth. I'm changing the strings to 13-56 later on today. I love this thing. The color in this photo is pretty dead on.

I went for the Jaguar and I love it! It's helped me pick faster and I can play metal on it

The impossible guys are doing a great job. The film gets better with each batch. It's awesome too that the medium is being kept alive

Buzzy Bridge

So, I noticed what people were saying about the hex screws coming out of the bridge and the bridge making rattling sounds. I had a tune-o-matic bridge in a box somewhere from a project I never did and decided to install it on the Jazzmaster. Now there's no buzz and or rattling sound.

Well, in my most unscientific approach I used my digital micrometer and measured at the 5th fret, centering the micrometer's tip in the center of the inlayed dot and came up with 0.921" for the white and 0.883" for the purple one. I measured several times and came up with the same or remarkably close measurements. It's certainly not dead on, but regardless the purple neck is slightly thinner between my two examples.

Awesome, thanks man. I love the Squier, but the neck can make my hand ache a bit after a while. Guess I'll put the purple one on the bucket list.

Cheers
