Looks like the Super-Sonic is back (also MIM Bass VI)

To echo Benecol and Stewart, am i the only one who thinks Fender both A)recognise the shortscale/offset type market, for all it's oddballness and creative modding above and beyond their more standard strats and teles....but also B) JUST DO NOT FUCKING GET US.
It's like they thought busting out an expensive MIM was the answer to our dreams (yes, kind of) but YOU KNOW DEM CRAZIE INDIE GUITARKIDS LETS BASH A NONSENSE LOOKING PICKUP ON IT! PAWN SHOP MODDING INNIT. ON YOUR REALLY EXPENSIVE MIM! AMAZING!
I really don't want spend best part of a grand or whatever to go through the hassle of getting a new pickguard cut an spending out on a matching pup.
Fender make very little sense to me. I apreciate that they are trying of course. But stop getting it wrong Fender! have you SEEN that petition for a squier bass six?

Custom Shop VIs were in the $1800 range, I believe... that or the $2300 range.

^plant me here. I would love a Bass VI, but at this price-point it's a no-dice. What will the bods at Fender do next to make me facepalm? Perhaps they can surpass themselves by re-issuing the Starcaster, but with scalloped fretboard & a kahler trem as "modern improvements".Dave wrote:I really don't want spend best part of a grand or whatever to go through the hassle of getting a new pickguard cut an spending out on a matching pup
It's shit like this (& the fucking Select Series) that makes me want to commit reverse headstock snobbery & sand off my Fender logos, writing Squier on the headstocks of my guitars with a Sharpie to make myself feel better.
fenders basically in the partscasters business-- why dont they have a thing like the NikeID store where you internet over, select the body neck pups and color u want and then pay 15% premium for the perfect guitar? its all just parts slapped together with various degrees of skill and now that they have MIChina w fender on teh headstock its not like labor is an issue....

It's the same basic price point now, but, it's a great bass, and, the lack of trem aside, is closer spec to a normal Fender VI than these things. I actually just put mine down; was playing some Disintegration tunes

My/our verdict: Meh. Sure, it's not a bad instrument. But at that price? Nah. Also, I think my Hellcat VI 2012 sounds more like a orginal Bass VI and have a overall better feel.
We liked the neck and the body, and the tone was pretty nice. But the five-way switch felt flimsy, the tremolo felt pretty cheap and flimsy too. and the overall feel was not what I expected in that price range.
My friend said that the strings felt a little wobbly, but I guess that's a matter of taste.
In our opinion, if any of us would buy one, we would change the switch and adjust the action (Higher.)
I would maybe buy this instrument used, because It's not worth the money new. I'd say that there are better VI for the money,
Disclaimer: We have NOT played any "real" Fender Bass VI before.

Has anyone seen any pricing for the VI? The Pawn Shop range cost a shade over £600 here in the UK but I'm guessing this may be a little more?
Although I'd love one, I am not sure I want to spend that sort of money on something I wouldn't use a huge amount. A Squier VM one would probably have been more up my street.

fuck me. they finally bring back the super sonic and it's Fender not Squier? It's going to cost as much as a vintage one on ebay if not more.

But it says Fender on it! maybe all the label snobs will "upgrade" and all the supersonics out there will end up on ebay, glutting the market and thus giving them a more realistic price.

Or you whiney nerds can just deal with the fact that there are more Super-Sonics out there.
BOO HOO THE NECK PICKUP IS ANGLED. It's not like you were going to leave them stock anyway, because EVERY FUCKING GUITAR NEEDS WIDE RANGE HUMBUCKERS BECAUSE I JERK OFF TO SONIC YOUTH
OH BOO HOO THEY'RE GOING TO BE EXPENSIVE. Yeah, they'll be spendy for the first TWO FUCKING MONTHS before they're all the fuck over eBay.
You guys are like the equally irrational polar opposite of the dudes who sand "Squier" off of their headstocks. You're hating on the guitar for being a FENDER?!?

Not if they're anything like the Mustang Specials. Don't see many of them on the used market for much less than new.theshadowofseattle wrote:OH BOO HOO THEY'RE GOING TO BE EXPENSIVE. Yeah, they'll be spendy for the first TWO FUCKING MONTHS before they're all the fuck over eBay.
