IMO the sonic blue one looks the best though, was sold on that color the second i saw it. but if the opportunity ever arises again i'd definitely get one though. amazing guitar for the money, whether it's that or the jag. i ended up getting a classic player jaguar back in high school after i saw mikes, and i was torn on getting the jazzmaster too. fast forward a few years and i ended up with both of em'. (though the jazzy's a squier but that doesn't matter it feels the same anyway)

that said i like the jazzmaster way more, cheapest guitar i own and it gets played more then any guitar i own. and mine's bone stock aside from strings, alot of people dont like that stock bridge, but with some candle wax it's solid as hell, i never have strings jump off the saddles or anything like that. the saddles did used to drop down before i waxed the screws though.

I've learned only recently not to get hung up on missing out on CL deals. It's a pretty flake-friendly setup, plus tons of people don't remove listings after they've sold something/JO'd with someone else, which is just annoying.

Major retailers will eventually unload their current stock of Squier VMs for megacheapz. The line will either be altered or discontinued at some point and they'll have to clean house. Then there's "Stupid Deals" and so on... they're also selling pretty well while in production and loads of people are putting nicer pickups in them, so the hot rodded secondhand market isn't going anywhere soon.

I'm just gonna stick this in here instead of making a new thread, but which do you guys think is the better guitar out of the box. the vm jazzmaster or jaguar? and don't say "whichever one you like better" because i love both jags and jazzmasters.

i dont have the vm jaguar so i couldn't say which is better, but i ordered my vm jazzmaster online and it was good to go right outve the box. love that guitar so i'd say jazzmaster.

might order that seafoam green jag next year. everyone that bought that one liked it i think.

I have the vm jag and ive played the vm jazzmaster ay guitar center, and honestly I really like them both, they got way different sounds. The jag is good for plinky jangly thin tones, the jm is more mellow and chimey. Also, I didn't really check it out but on my jag the bridge pickup is really honky but in a good way imo. Ive got a good recorded example here (don't mind the singing) (link)

i usually use my jag for RIFFS and jangle, and use my jazzy for strummy and twinkly stuff.

I think I'll probably go for the jag then. The seafoam green is calling me.

at the price they're going for it totally doesn't matter. you could always snag the other one down the line.

The jag ill probably get first cuz dont think ill jave to do anything other than a bridge swap.
The jazzmaster will tempt me with new pups and my love of sparkle finishes.

imo there's no need for a bridge swap, just go down on the bitch with some tools and and locktite and its solid as fuck

Yuri, I bought both the VMJM and the VM Jag at the same time. I couldn't decide. I got a CAR JM and a seafoam green Jag.

I really wanted the JM because I had wanted one for a long time. I had owned quite a few short scales and liked the different feel of the long neck. Also, i wanted those mellow yet chimey JM pups. The guitar was really a great choice. I sold all my other guitars before moving to Asia, but I had to bring the JM with me.

I almost didn't buy the Jag, but the neck was amazing. It was so thin, smooth, and easy to play. The pickups were also very nice for the price. I sold it another member of this forum because I decided it was too bright and I was over short scales. Big mistake. To this day that's the only guitar I regret selling, and I've had some really nice guitars.

Both guitars were great players out of the box. Both needed new strings and a few minor tweaks... But really, you should learn to set up your own guitars and set them up to your liking. It's not very hard to adjust action and intonate. The bridges are shit; I had problems with screws rattling loose and falling out. I also had the famous sinking bridge issue. Mustang bridge or StayTrem FTW.

You should also consider the Mascis JM. It's super solid. Comes with a good bridge and darker pups. The neck is more chunky but not in a bad way. Really great guitar. My bandmate had one and I played it all the time.
