*steps up*

I reckon I'm better at setting trems up than Doog.

(Terrible at hearing tuning nuances, mind, but that's why I bend all notes).
"I can set up a vibrato bridge to stay in tune.

On an unrelated note, I can't tell if something is in tune"

i'd say i've spent a reasonable amount of time, but i also alt tune, which lots of people do. a strat trem is fine in a perfectly robust closed setup, i.e. no alt tunings, no risk of string slippage, tuning problems, any snagging under the sun, which most people can't be arsed or are unable to get right in a pinch. you can bark on about people needing to know how to set those perfect conditions up, but shit happens, and a jag trem will let you deal with that stuff better on the fly.

also, doog is probably the most well versed in this sort of thing and he's on my side, so i'm pulling the doog card on you. i think that puts an end to it...
So because Doog can't be arsed, you are right... This is your winning argument?
least i have an argument. what was yours again? oh the hipsters, gotcha.

Also, I can totally be arsed and I was arsed several times. Music is one of the things I most definitely have the arse for.

I can and have setup strat trems, it's just not smooth enough for my taste, and a pain in the ass. and like George I alt tune constantly and the jazzmaster just is way easier to fuck with.

I wasn't arguing against anything, unlike your good self. I was merely pointing out that I was surprised at the amount of votes the Strat trem got, and that I fully expected the Jag trem to get a lot of votes on a forum (sort of) dedicated to shortscale guitars... Hipsters was merely a baited hook for catching fop haired indie kids that can't accept what they are... Hipsters one and all.

I use a Bigsby on my Gretsch - it's great. I use it constantly and I don't have any trouble. The key is to graphite the nut slots and change strings regularly and when I change the strings I always give them a good stretch. Solid as a rock.

I also have a strat trem on my Bullet - same thing. Graphite the nut and stretch the strings.

Ok there was a bit of trolling going on but this part was genuine:
dezb1 wrote:The voting for the jazz / jag has gone the way I thought it would, but I was surprised at the amount of votes the strat got as it seems to get panned...
Probably because of the alt tunings used by folk as you pointed out, as I usually play in standard I've never really considered the problems it would cause.

I just don't know how to set up. I've played jms that didn't go out of tune.

Don't get involved your plight is just the bait for annoying George...

Ps: Hope you get it sorted... Or traded in for a guitar with a proper trem...

Mosrite Vibramute. Like a Bigsby, with a handle that rotates all the way around, and without any of the pain in the ass of trying to put strings on pins.
