Thanks Fran and Paul for the info. I'm gonna go check out the J-S this week. Treble be damned

Sick this week (again) and waiting for some stock parts for the Jazzy. Hopefully next week? The J-S has been sitting in the shop for at least 4 months, so I'm not too worried. I'll update this thread either way...

Holding off on this for now because I think I'm going to Japan in a few months. Will be much cheaper to go the source.
Thanks for the sound advice everyone. I'll be looking for a Jag-Stang or used Compstang upon arrival in Tokyo.

Strongly doubt you will find a Jag-Stang, I have done a few days of guitar shopping in Tokyo and didn't see a single one. Plenty of Mustangs, not many comps though.
The Ochanomizu "guitar street" is a must, and there is a great and enormous used store called TC Gakki right next to Shin-Okubo station one stop north of Shinjuku. Nice guys to deal with. First trip I bought a Strat for a friend, a Greco Strat for myself and a Jaguar I got in Osaka for $460 and sold for $800 here. Second trip I got two Teles for good prices but they were for friends, so no profit to be made!

Snap, well perhaps I'll change up my game plan. I saw a J-S on Ishibashi's UBox a few months back and jumped to conclusions. Thanks for the reality check. I'll reconsider buying the J-S offered locally.
When I do get to Tokyo, I'll definitely check out TC Gakki. A used 69 RI would be nice.

That's really nice of you to even suggest. Hopefully I'll end up with a J-S that you can borrow sometime.

Some of their stock is online -
MG69 in CAR - and they ship, very easy to deal with via e-mail and they send extra pics on request.
You should also search in Digimart -
link here - many dealers list their stock on there and you can find out which store something is in when you click for details. Knowing the model number helps too - MG69 or MG will show you the Mustangs.

Think NHB has one of those. OTM comp stripe, nice.

There's the orange BECK compstang at a shop near me, but it's just too expensive. You can get used Stangs in Japan for less than half the price. Otherwise, I'd be giving it some serious thought.

Back to Jag-Stang talk: I finally plugged in the J-S at my local shop today. Shortscale's comments were right on. The neck pup sounded good but was a bit woolly. When I cranked the amp's treble control up to 7, it was much better. Surprisingly, the humbucker wasn't that bad. It had a cream cover, so it might not be the original. All in all, the guitar was a lot of fun to play and handled my crazy delay settings just fine.
I'm going to go back with my JM on Sunday and see if I can orchestrate a trade.

Hearing this I seriously need to make a friend in Japan...

Ishibashi has tons of used Stangs under $500 US right now. You just need to spring for shipping!
So the guitar shop with the J-S offered me a ridiculously low amount for my VM JM. Going to sell it on my own now...
