True... that is the downside to tabs. It took me a while to develop my ear to be able to figure stuff out myself.

I really want to know the same thing, my Dad has a spray booth he uses to spray cars and I could easily paint a guitar and only have to worry about getting the finish, but I'm not sure how well paint designed to go on metal will deal with wood. I guess with enough primer it'll be fine, right?

I learned chords from a Mel Bay chord book, then was introduced to tabs from GUITAR WORLD MAGAZINE, and I think they helped me visualize notes on the fret board, then over time my ears caught up, but atleast I can find a note on the fret board during freebird solos and shit. Thank you tabs.

The paint me and cowbell have used on our broncos is car paint. It works fine... that's what Fender used back in the day.

I'd have been all like "Whut's the bypass like on a Zoom1010?" instead of goig OMFG it's GOT LIGHTS AND WORDS ON IT AND MY GUITAR IS A SPACESHIP NOW
Totally! My first pedal was a Zoom 707.....Until the input jacks crapped out on me and I got the internet (circa 2000)) I loved it. From then on it was a constant pursuit to find that tone that everyone glorifies by words into a non-existant bliss. It's all too easy to forget that it's not how many pedals you can buy, it's what you can do with your fingers.

Also, I was fortunate enough to learn the basics of my playing before I got the internet....if I had all those tabs at my disposal I wouldn't have figured out my own ways of playing things or developed my own playing style.

when he starts using weird analogies for colours and posting excessive smileys, like, real enthusiastic about an impulsive project idea, i always think of the oxygen-deprived toki from an episode of metalocalypse for some reason. it's weird, its happened every time for the last 5 or so of his threads:
