When you are creating a banner, make it then size it down, or size it down and make it? When I try resizing everything turns to crap. Which makes no sense, maybe it was the program I'm using.

I don't want to break out Adobe just for a banner :/

As soon as you mess with the height/width ratio, the picture's gonna look crappy. Best bet is to resize the picture the right kinda size, crop it to 580x100 or whatever it is, then add the text- that way you're not gonna be messing with the text width and height too.
