Are they just testing the waters and restricting availability initially and called them FSR ?

And why mustang only (first) ?

I'm pretty sure they are not related. one model was initiated by Fender Japan for the japanese market the other by FMIC for the world market.

A chamfer is the angled bit/surface you get, when you cut or plane a 90 degree corner. So he's talking about the outer edge of the scratch plate, where it angles down from the top ply to the bottom. I'm guessing it's a bit rough in areas?

Exactly, nothing to worry about at all and only mildly cosmetic.

Looks great Mike! If i was in the market for a Jag i'd be all over one of these.

So here's my thoughts:

I can only talk about the Jaguar obviously, but if you're after a first Jaguar or even just a Jag with a great colour I wouldn't even hesitate about getting one. For £255 delivered I'm very happy indeed.
Having said the weight was fine when I was wandering downstairs with it to string it up with some 11s later that evening I did notice it was pretty heavy, but that's generally not something that has really bothered me about guitars. It could also be because we'd spent the evening stripping lining paper and sizing the new plaster downstairs. I'm not a strong man these days for some reason, everything breaks when I try to do anything.

ANYWAY:

Starting with first impressions, the guitar looks great. I was very excited pulling it out of the box and unwrapping that foam stuff from around it, the Surf Green was glowing underneath. Like Sonic Blue it looks very different in different lighting conditions but doesn't look washed out like the online photos. Pickguard as mentioned is a little rough cut on the edges but I don't really care about that. People are saying AVRI guards fit if you want to get a more pro guard, maybe I'll consider mint green down the line, but I'm in no hurry and that might look washed out. I see why people have mentioned the off while pickups against the white guard though, it is something you notice. But again, look at what you've paid. The aforementioned black spots are very small (think pinpoints) and must have been dust fragments when clearcoating I think. They're invisible if you're not poring over the guitar so I don't really care. Neck finish is nicely glossy and happily non anemic. Fretends are clean and nicely done, and the 'board though a little dry is perfectly attractive and feels nice to play. I'm gonna pick up some lemon oil today to sort that out. All the chrome looks ace, machineheads are tight and work well, and overall it's a looker. the only other thing I should mention is the neckplate is quite LOLsome, the Squier stamp didn't exactly get nailed, with the lower 20% sort of.. missing haha. Not that I give a monkeys but I imagine someone else might whine.

The guitar itself plays very nicely - I noticed the radius right away, because I guess I'm really used to my 7.25" radius Jaguar and Mustang, but like the Classic Player while noticeable it's not a buzzkill and definitely means you can do more complicated things a bit easier without choking out notes. Put it this way, when I play something like Mew's Am I Wry? No you could probably recognise it now. High praise indeed? The pickups are higher output than my vintage ones (obviously) but they're not as hot and midheavy as the Classic Players, they're actually a really nice balance. Plenty of snap and bite and also warmth if you want it. Obligatory Under The Bridge with neck pickup and strange switch sounds dead on, whilst all the Sell Crazy classics are all present and correct clean and dirty using the various pickup selections. All electronics are solid and responsive, zero complaints. No buzz or grounding issues.

The bridge was setup pretty low, the plate itself sitting only a couple of mm above the pickguard and there was some buzz from the low E and B and high E sorted by increasing the saddle heights. That plus some 11s has the guitar playing really nicely now and I'm not really in a hurry to swap the bridge or anything, I'm going to live with this one for a while I think. Nothing is fouling on the intonation screws - was intonated fine out of the box (Gearwire LOLs) and I gave the truss a little 1/4 turn to sort tiny about of back bow, will see how it settles but it all seems very solid. The Trem is actually one of my favourite I've had a muck about on, it pops in which I know some people hate, but screw arms have their issues also. Seems to stay where you leave it also which is good. I had some fun playing stuff I normally leave Analogue Delay with modulation to pretty up and giving it some shimmer using the arm instead - could I be becoming a trem guy?

I've only given it a welly through my Mustang I and some pedals but it handles dirt and clean really nicely. Above all I'm a Jaguar fan, and I love how they sound (not everyone does obviously) but this sounds like a Jaguar.

Seriously impressed and very glad I took the plunge.

I'll give you some more chat about neck profile when I've had more time with it next to my other guitars.

PS, without sounding like a parrot... a mint guard will tie in the colour of the guitar and pickups nicely.

Yeah, I would say so... that's a bargain I reckon.

Allparts UK do an official tort AVRI guard for £50, and some japanese friendly mint guards for £24, and I thought that was cheap.

Nice review Mike. I'm dying for a Jag, and if I'm honest, I really wanted a Jap with matching heastock. These seem to run at 450-550 s/h.

If it was YOU, and you didn't have a Jag, but wanted one, would you

a) Buy a squier jag now

b) Wait a couple more months and save for a mij/cij
