No I don't hink so either. With regards to all the other aspects of the playability and sound, you still reckon teh squier? Only other thing holding me back is the fretboard radius, but then again, I do love my jmjm, just find the neck too chunky.

Looking like a OW jag for me then...

I've not played a CIJ Jag in ages so I couldn't make the call, probably best you try both out before making the decision.

Yeah, it's quite tricky finding a mij as they're generally all s/h.

I think if I play one of the new squiers and really like it, then that'll be all the decision I need. Plus, considering you have a vintage, that review is very complimentary indeed for squier.

If you are happy with your purchase consider going to Musician's Friend and doing a review. There is only one review of the Jaguar and it's a scathing thumbs down refering to the instrument as garbage.

Congrats to eveyone on your new purchases! Wish that I were joining you, but I've convinced myself to complete my refinishing projects before anymore new purchases.

But no one has one in their hands yet, from what I can see.

When I ordered mine last Friday they were in stock with Fender themselves, I could see all their stock levels on my work PC. I hope they drop this week sometime.

Just seems a lot of folk have got the Jags / Jazzys and no ones seeing the Stangs yet. I'm kinda pleased they haven't turned up yet as I'm on holiday and wont be able to play it until I return.

I would really like to see a proper fan photograph, instead of the photoshop'd card board cutout that you see on the Squier website. I keep checking google images and setting in to the last 24 hours. I'm impatient !!!

The neck of my CIJ Jazzy is pretty chunky yet still comfortable, but my Mustang's is a lot thinner. I certainly notice the difference between the two. Not sure about Jags though.

Cheers for the review though, Mike. It answered any questions I would've had. Sounds like the chamfer on the 'guard is easily solved with five minutes with some sandpaper. No biggie.

I have a load of stuff to buy during the summer/autumn but the CAR version might be my christmas present to myself...

+1 on the Sonic Blue - agree wholeheartedly. Re. mustangs - pretty sure they had them in GAK in Brighton when I was in there at the weekend....such was my enthusiasm for trying one of the new JMs, I couldn't swear to that though.

The one thing that I'd fault the JM I played on is very easily fixable & that is the intonation.....for whatever reason, the saddles were all in one straight line on the one I played. I mentioned this to one of the sales guys in there & he stated that they're encouraging people to buy Mustang bridges from them as an add-on (which is probably all well & good if you have no experience with these bridges, or favour light-gauge strings). Personally, I've always got on fine with these bridges & I use 12s on shortscales, 11s on regular scale, so won't be bothering with that "upgrade".

Other than that, it was a great guitar & easily held its own in comparison to much more expensive instruments. Will be buying one of these Squiers in the none-too-distant. The only thing stopping me is a constant to & fro between the Jag & the Jazzmaster.

Have owned a CIJ Jag before & would be lying if I said I didn't miss it, but the Sonic Blue Jazzmaster is calling me too (can't justify both). If I get a Jag, Surf Green will be the order of the day.

I would be tempted to buy an Olympic White Jazzmaster and swap out the pickguard for a gold anodized guard so the tremolo would be in the traditional spot.

I wish Sea Foam Green was a color option.

CIJ jags are alder and FUCKING heavy. The pickups are also not potted and squeal like a pig (least the old ones did). These Squiers are basswood and way lighter which is one reason I'd consider them. Plus the 9.5" radius is better for a lower action in my experience.

Think you might be onto a winner with the weight shout. Don't want no back breaker, and I've heard of some heavy cij jags. Right, now to see if there are any squiers in the immediate vicinity...

Great review mike, I think we need a session of guitar playing coming up soon with our amps/guitars/etc and we could then do a compare of your jag & my JMJM as well as our old vintage ones, it will be a great shoot out. I'm really wanting one of these jags though

regarding the matching headstock, to be honest, its my least favourite feature about my Jag, sounds stupid as most people jizz over them, but just my taste.

Do want some olympic white jazzy action, but just can't take the plunge at the moment. Does anybody have any idea as to how long they'll keep this run going before they become as rare/expensive as a supersonic?
