butane? just use a $15 weller soldering iron. you can get 'em at any hardware store. get one with a small, pen-sized tip.

Well I had an upper and a downer of a day. I took the jag today to the best luthier in Perth to get him to do the wiring as well as a setup and check to see everything was alright. Twaz all good when I dropped it off, he was going to charge me AU$150 for complete wiring and setup, which I though was alright.
Come back later just before closing and he was still working on the wiring. And thats when he hit me with the list of problems:
- Wiring Diagram (especially the phasing switch) was wrong
- The phasing switch itself was broken (faulty from purchase)
- The pickup cavity was routed too shallow by Cross and hence the wires didnt fit (we spent about 30 mins fiddling til they got in)
- As a result the hum had to sit higher, needing the bridge to be set high and a neck shim
- Upon inspection, the luthier pointed out a fairly big problem with the fretwork. Not only were some of the frets lifting, many had flat spots caused when originally installed (I did notice flat spots but didnt think much of it)
- Worst of all, all the frets are out by a minute angle. FINGERS CROSSED this guitar will intonate.
- Ohh yeah, due to the stuffing around, I didnt get a setup.
Essentially, if I do any re-wiring, I will need to do a reroute to allow easier access. With luck, the neck will work and when the frets wear, I'll get a new one made. Otherwise if it doesnt intonate properly, looks like I'm in the market for a new neck.
So I'm really mixed atm. I pray it will intonate.

perfect intonation is for pussies - you still have an awesome guitar
so when you do pick it up? we want PICS and SAMPLES!!

I've got it now, currently stringing it. I shud have samples later this week, I give it a proper run on sunday at practise.
I really hope intonation is right. If its off by a micro of a tone, not to bothered. But if it sounds like donkey balls, il be right pissed.

wow...what did the luthier do about the lifting frets? I had a similar issue with B3K's Bronco neck...what a pain in the ass.
I'm going to have to completely refret the entire neck all over...

Basically he said that I'm better off getting a new neck, since the frets were out it would be a waste of time to do it.
But forget that, put strings on, set height and intonation and BINGO!! It worked!! It intonated near perfectly and though its 1am here, couldnt resist plug her in!
The pickups are absolutely killer! The Tex-Mex with the big muff is great, while the Tone Zone takes it into over kill. Single split is alright, very cool sound but usuable. Parallel split is very quiet though, only good with neck on. Overall I'm now very happy, samples this week!!

Not selling sorry :p
Played it at practice today and it is fucking ace, brilliant tone and sustain. Sound delicously evil wth a Big Muff
In the future though I'm gonna get some work done on the body and a new neck. While the neck is easy to play, due to the uneven frets some buzz while others are fine. Plus the paint work isnt holding, everything seems to scratch it.
Neway, project finished!! In the future I will fix the probs with it, but for now its good

Dude, that's not a schematic, it's that really annoying huge zip you send about with pictures of your wires. It takes like 10 minutes to make a real schematic, stop being lazy.
And anyway, your design involves fitting new parts (push/pulls), Shad just wants a simple rewire job, which this existing schematic offers.
I'm confused as to why mine didn't work? Did you test it, or did your luthier just shoot it down?

Your Jag-stang is wired a bit like my SGuar, in terms of tonal options.

He tried your wiring and it had no signal out of it, even when he tried a brand new mustang switch.

I'm fixing that now, I know what the problem is.
And Mumbly, I think I know the problem there too, but looks like you luthier knew how to fix it anyway.

I remember this guitar on Jagstang, when i saw the pics I said everything looks off angle wise with the frets and how the zero point didn't look to run straight down the middle , and everybody told me it was the jagstang body. Like I've never seen a jagstang. To be honest all the pics I remember seeing from that guy's projects, everything always looked off.
