I only found it the other month. There is a lot of designer hate but people seem cool about drawing up stripboard layouts and helping debug. I'm not a poster there, but I found skimming some of teh threads interesting.

I'm glad you went with a custom housing and not a generic box, the last thing the world needs is another "boutique company" charging custom prices and stuffing everything in a knockoff hammond box. The effort is appreciated. I think $150 is a good price.

thank you, that means a lot. we wanted to try to reproduce the look as much as the sound. you can really get nostalgia from a classic effect if you are stomping on a brick.

we wanted to keep cost down as much as possible, too.

but i do appreciate the feedback. thanks.

i like to think i have a pretty good fuzz knowledge.

when i remember to post.

when i remember i have a membership to this form.

either way, i have a friend making a univox clone soon, and another a orange kay clone [in a wah casing]. According to the dude making the univox clone, his univox's and his shin-ei are vastly different.

the circuits are virtually identical, except for the type of transistors used. and even then, those transistors were all "compatible replacements) for older transistors. obviously they werent EXACTLY the same, but in practice there was little to no discernible difference. the only major change to the circuit with the absence of the 10k trimmer pot on the pcb that controlled the amplifiers balance.

the shin-ei was the original superfuzz, and shin-ei licensed the design out to univox, teisco, kay, etc...

the univox that pete townsend used at first was a shin-ei, then in the late 70's he switched to one of the colorful ones with the treadle. the ones he used were all pretty much the same with the exception of brand, chassis, and the trimmer pot. you can make the circuit identical in the shin-ei by shorting the trimmer out of the circuit.

well, it will be all RoHS! we thought that the circuit boards were tin reflowed, not tin lead, but it is. since ordered 100, we were gonna use all 100 up and then make the fully compliant ones, but we said fuck it and ordered the RoHS compliant circuit boards.s.

it was too late when we realized the boards werent compliant. but this next build and every build after will be compliant fully.

Ah coolio. I did just wonder. Most thing that ship in the EU seem to be marked RoHS in the US as well. I got some Fender parts off eBay from a private seller and they were all stickered RoHS.
