james.... uhhh.... sorry man.
i kinda fuct up your neck thru.
it seems that while i was driving with it to show a buddy of mine i hit a rather large pot hole and it jumped out my window and hit the pavement.
really really hard.
i think i can fix it tho dude.
anywho.
here are the damages..................
![Image](http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g126/Fender96jag/IMG_4252.jpg)
gotcha!
i planed and thickness sanded the sides last night and today i cut them and glued them.
![Image](http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g126/Fender96jag/IMG_4253.jpg)
altho it is a go figure, once i glued them on i realized i could have shaped the neck about 2-1/2 inches more than i already did.
its no big thing tho, just means i gotta work harder and do more work at it.
probly bout tuesday i will be able to band saw out the sides and get a pretty good looking body shape going on.
so far at the first fret the thickness is 22 mm's
and 25 at the twelth, it deffenitly needs to less than 25 at the 12th, more like 23.5 but thats what sandpaper is for.

so james, what was this guitar?
i mean, was it a production line guitar or a luthier made one off?
it looks like the yamaha that hurb used to have except flipped upside down.
btw,
i gots the raw shape, and you and i should be greatful that i got a new bandsaw otherwise, non of this would be possible.
so far so good.
my only gripe is that the headstock is about 19 feet too thick and it'll have to be taken down by hand with a light plane or sandpaper.
either way its going to take forever and im going to be in a bad mood when its all said and done.
i may actually route the body tonight, if i feel froggy enough to do so.
if not then you will just have to deal!

Scott French made some guitars in a small boutique luthier style...
SF0 Design - My take on a classic design.
SF1 Design - The first complete original.
SF2 Design - A modern acoustic guitar.
SF3 Design - The flagship model.
SF4 & SF5 Designs - Single cut basses.

He made it then put it up for sale on the site, the detail about someone buying it isquite recent and the first time I've seen it. He called it his tribute to Leo Fender.
I don't remember how I found the page but I fell in love with that particular guitar as soon as I saw it. I don't like much of his other stuff, but that one is amazing. I'm really sure if it's a one off, something he'll make to order, or the start of a new direction.

im kinda spoling you with all the recent pics, cuz after the body gets done, it'll drop off the radar for A WHILE!
but at anyrate.
this is from last night.
late, late, last night.
![Image](http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g126/Fender96jag/IMG_4261.jpg)
and then after work today i decided to go ahead and do the pup routes and the control cavity route,
cept if you look really hard you will notice that my bearing locked up, and melted the bottom of the bucker template so its sort of.... rounded.
not really that noticable, but worth mentioning.
![Image](http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g126/Fender96jag/IMG_4262.jpg)
and then i started to do the actual cutting of the body.
(mo, remember the small bits you taking off, compare) this is one pass
![Image](http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g126/Fender96jag/IMG_4263.jpg)
BUT! i hit a snag, at first i thought the template was big enough to go over the fretboard.
but its not. so i could not get to certain points of the body. no big deal, i just gotta cut out another piece and lay it on top to give myself some more heigth.
![Image](http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g126/Fender96jag/IMG_4264.jpg)
i've got alot to do tomorrow so i may or may not get this done. either way, it will be done by friday.
and then its just setting the bridge and doing the holes, and then of course SANDING!

this is awesome as shaiiiit.
i really liked the blue paisley, but it would be great to just get pink AND blue so you can see which one works best IRL.

Holyfuck that looks great.
It's taking shape. And it's beginning to make sense to me now.

I actually forgot the body was three seperate pieces for a while there. It's also the first time i've seen the hockey stick in the full context. I never bothered to photoshop it when I decided to go with it. So good.
I'm happy to do lots of the sanding. I'm going to need to sand and seal it before painting anyway so I don't mind doing some more of it to save you some time.
What happened with the bridge/pickguard situation? Is there going to be a slight recess in the pickguard to accept the bridge? Like a strat? I can't remember what we decided when there wasn't enough room.

well.
if i follow your tracing EXACT then there will be like a 1-2 mms recess towards the bass end, but i actually had to cut some more room around the fretboard so it sat higher up.
but at anyrate, im just going to sand it a bit and take off 1mm or so(no more than 2mms) so that way i don't have to worry about it and the flow isn't bothered at all.
i think you can slightly tell in the pic what im talking about.
my hands are shaky and the camera doesn't really pic up on pencil lines so it might be hard to tell.

After posting that I realised I could see a pencil mark on the one with routes and that the bridge was just off the pickguard. I just drew roghly over the pencil marks I could make out in paint to highlight them a bit. The pickguard looks a bit too close to the edge near the control plate though, is it going to be the same distance as the bit to the right when it's done?

i didn't quite understang what you meant, but you do know that thats before the body was routed on the outside right?
i think you are talking about the guard on the bottom bout right?
how its close to the edge of the body?
look at the og guitar that you based it off of, its pretty close as well.

That's just the bandsaw cut? That explains it then.

I hope you put the upper horn strap button, not on the upper horn, but at the neck pocket like an SG, I think with a horn that huge a strap would fuck up the balance?
Looks great.

I'm planning on going with the strap on the horn, and the other one at the left most edge in those pics, so it's not in the middle of the body. I'll decide when i have it though. I remember putting strap button locations on the tracing actually, but can't remember where they are.

That'd be best to wait and put the strap on and see how it balances. HURRY UP AND GET IT DONE!

I think I might just put one on the horn, then locate the other one to get the balance right. i'll do it before I paint it anyway.

well, that horn is so long becuz it reaches the 12th, the 12th is generally the best place for a strap button.
but anywho.

I think with the way the body is small near the jack socket and large at the other side, the balance will come out nicely. This is one of the few areas where I can't remember what we planned. Was I going to install the strap buttons or where you? I'm cool with doing it, I need to get a load of schaller locking tpes so I'll probably just go straight for those anyway.
