It does seem strange that they'd get the stripe so wrong. Perhaps their licence with Fender is limited and they don't have permission to do an accurate copy with the stripe.

Because they are, in my experience. They do tend to half-arse things at times.

I didn't notice the stripe until I looked closer, it spoils it a little bit. Fucking Warmoth.

I couldn't put it better myself. The neck also has white dots instead of pearl like I specified. After the neck was finished and painted they let me know.

They did offer to make a new neck, but I didn't want to wait another four months so I just bent over and took it.

That image is the one on their site advertising their painting of comp stripes.

That + 4 months waiting time = NoHo level of customer service.

The fact they have it correct on the stock image is pretty fucking ridiculous.

They quote 4-6 weeks lead time. They mean: Whenever we get around to it.

before i bought my first jaguar i wanted to have warmoth make me a telecaster with a jaguar bridge and tailpiece and they refused to do it. i don't think i'll ever buy anything from them.

WTF? I thought they at least knew what they were doing. The mistakes on mine are more of an oversight. How can a wood working / finishing company fuck up that bad?

And incase yer wondering when I bent over it fit up to the 5th fret.

Did you go for gold(!) partly because of the slightly golden look of the aged comp orange? Misplaced stripe aside it looks pretty good and it's great to see a colour that isn't stock used. As far as more vintage correct goes, I think it was Joey back in the jag-stang.com days who sent warmoth a vintage body to copy. It was something in the 64-66 region if I'm remembering the facts correctly.

I did a quick pick using a blue mustang to overlay the stripe. It isn't spot on because of the slight angle differences but it's close to where it should be.

I picked gold because I like the color on old Les Pauls. The guitar is perfect in every other way and I don't lose sleep over it (anymore).

Since we're talking about the competition stripe these are some cool pictures showing how inconsistent they were. It's been my understanding that the stripes on vintage mustangs were laid out by hand.
They are all the same dimensions - 1/4"outer - 1/8"gap - 1/2"middle - 1/8"gap - 1/4"outer but all start and end at different spots. The reissues apear to be done by machine.
