Cool, thanks! Steve's is a bit of a rip off when it comes to their prices. I go there every now and then to browse, but I only buy strings there. Archambault has better prices on Fenders, and they usually have Jags, Jazzies, and mustangs in stock. There sales staff is more helpful, too.laterallateral wrote:Nope, no comp. What I saw was was your standard fare 69 RI.
I think they go for somewhere between the 700-750 range.
Mustang or Classic Player Jaguar HH?

Things are getting pretty dire, up here in Montreal, when it comes to places to buy instruments.
Steve's is a rip off, no matter how you look at it. We generally end up going there for supplies because it's
so close to the studio but I'd never buy anything over $100 there. On the plus side, some of the chicks that work
in the guitar section at steve's are to die for smoking HOT! Hot bitches and music gear at the same time does
really stupid things to yr head, eh? Avoid.
Archambault is cool but there's something real Wall-Martish about that place, no? They DO have cooler guitars
than Steve's or Italmelodie in general. They get some seriously nice amps from time to time. I just can't get over
how they're primaraly a record shop. It's like if Virgin tried to sell you Jaguars.
Italmelodie: It's getting harder and harder to find stuff that doesn't have diamond plating on it at that place.
Jack Guitars: $700 for a VOX AD100VTH?? Ever heard of ebay, Jack? Fuck you Jack!
What ever happened to that awesome vintage guitar place that was on Gilford @ St Denis?
Then there's those not really instrument stores like the one on lower St Cath... They'll try to sell you these New York Pros
and are completely prepared to talk you over the specs until they realize that you're actually humoring them a little.
To be fair, I did find an awesome analog delay rackmount there for like 25 bucks and I did walk into Le Guitarium on Wellington,
in Verdun to find a weird Hiwatt 500 head lying around under some junk.
I've been hearing alot of good things about this Jimi's music place... Out on Sherbrooke W, possibly in the Deege, anybody ever been there?

I like Jimi's alot, I didn't see one fender there...same when I went to Le Guitarium ...they have some ibanez & gibsons there, but I never saw a fender.laterallateral wrote:Things are getting pretty dire, up here in Montreal, when it comes to places to buy instruments.

Cool fact about jimis, they fixed something for my brothers bass in 2 minutes for 2$, steve's charged 60$, and took 2 weeks.
The guitars I saw at Steve's and Archambault were all the same prices, 1962 RI Jags were 1,499 at both stores, and the Mustangs were 750 at both.
The pawn shops in montreal are fucking horrible, they're all rediculously overpriced.
Do you know of any good stores besides Steve's & Archambault that do have fenders?
P.S. When I was in New Hampshire I stopped by a guitar store, and they were selling their mustangs for 1,000...but they don't have sales taxes (1965 RI)
EDIT : Italmelodie...I've heard of it, have no clue where it is though....is it any good?
Jack's guitars is horrible. I think they're a front, they're always rude to anybody shopping there, and I don't see how they can survive next to Steve's.laterallateral wrote:Things are getting pretty dire, up here in Montreal, when it comes to places to buy instruments.

Which store are you referring to on lower Ste-Catherine? I've never been to Le Guitarium either... are these good places?
I remember that place on Gilford! That place closed a long time ago though (in the early 90s I think?)
Italmelodie isn't bad, but for reasons unknown to me, they don't sell Fender products. I have no idea why, because they're probably the second biggest instrument store after Steve's. They do sell G&L guitars, but that company seems to have forgotten that Leo invented other guitars besides Strats and Teles.
Jimi's is fucking awesome... it's a tiny little store on Sherbrooke in NDG, run by some really cool people. They often have some interesting used gear. Last summer I bought a 1980 Fender Concert amp (Designed by Rivera, all point-to-point, and the most killer reverb!) for cheap. Since they're a small store, they don't have a huge selection, but there are always a few jems. They're at 5776 Sherbrooke West, a 10 minute walk from Vendome metro.
MOOG has some interesting stuff. I bought an M-Audio Firewire thing to record directly into the computer, and they were cheaper than other places for that. However, their guitar section is so limited that it's almost surreal. They have some nice things, but the selection is so limited that it feels more like you're looking at someone's personal guitar collection than a store inventory. For synth stuff and DJ equipment, they're well stocked.laterallateral wrote:Oh, and MOOG Audio and Boutique (douche) Tone is waaaaaay too expensive for me.
Boutique Tone is a joke...

Well, I'll have to go check out Jimmy's for certain, then!
The place on lower St-Catherine and Le Guitarium are pretty much the same, in that they are no good if you're into pro gear.
Pretty much all they sell there are these horrible unknown Chinese crap brands made out of parts that barely fit together and for which you can find no info for, on the net. this wouldn't be so tragic, if they had interesting quirky models but no... You get your Strat, Tele, LP copies, a few mangy archtops and some seriously retchworthy trans purple, gold hardwared metalz0rgz, all for at least twice the ammount of money you'd want to pay for the fun that could be had trashing the things in the alley behind the store.
Like I said, though... They seem to carry some cool used gear sometimes and that makes it worth swinging by from time to time. That 25 dollar analog delay rackmount was a steal. They clearly didn't do their homewok with the pricing there but the Hiwatt amp I saw at the other place was going for the expected 2k.
It was pretty out of place.

Yeah, that store right next to steve's, the guys a fucking asshole.astro wrote:Jack's guitars is horrible. I wanted to sell him something, he asked me if I was 18, I wasn't...so I said no, and he pretty much kicked me out...I know to pawn stuff off you have to be 18, but my brother is 19, and my dad said he'd pawn it off for me, and the guy wouldn't listen, complete asshole.
but anyone know anything about that Italmelodie place?
or is Steve's / Archambault my best bet?
I know lots of people have problems with the Steve's salesmen / women, but there's only one guy that's a dick to me (the middle-aged dude)...the other guys are all really nice...even when they know I'm not gonna buy anything yet....the guys in the sound department (where they sell soundboards, and recording equipment) are ass's, and if you don't know one little thing, they treat you like you're a retard.

i have no idea what you can do in canada. probably more than you can in america.
i was just in canada yesterday and the fucking beer store AND the liquer store closed at fucking 6PM and we had no place to go to get drunk except either room service or the casino floor waitresses that you only saw come around like every 45 minutes.
ITS FUCKING HARD TO GET DRUNK IN CANADA JESUS CHRIST.
