Their albums Bleed American and Futures are pretty good.
I've only ever seen him with a sodding Les Paul though. WTF

See, I like this series. Apparently the guitar was designed to be used by Jim Adkins, as opposed to replicating his favourite. I like that idea a lot more. Shame they no doubt can't keep costs down.

but they haven't done anything in like 5 years.
clarity is pretty good, too.

Commerically, I think you're right, but I'm pretty sure they've been touring. I saw them this time last year, they pretty much just played Bleed American stuff , but I swear they had some new stuff there too, and older too of course.

My amp and guitar are both Fender, and i like a lot of what they have done in the past. This current ownership is supposed to be the one that saved it from nonsense. All they seem capable of is putting out sig models that look like ones they designed themselves and slapped on an artists name to try and boost sales and buying out other guitar companies. I wouldn't buy any modern Fender products on the principle that they have probably the best back catalouge in the industry and they can't be fucked to do anything interesting now.

They could have at least put one of those "behind the bridge" pickups on one of those, that'd be vaguely interesting.

JEW is a great band.

That album has randomly been playing at many a turning point in my life, the crazy thing is I've never actually owned it (Bleed American that is). Love the songs. At least it shows that they're putting a little marketing behind those weird P90 thinline things that I don't want to buy...
But also Sonic Youth Fenders are cool

Fender could have fucked up WAY more than they actually did with them, which is only a little.

I don't like Clarity as much. I like pop songs, pop melodies and pop harmonies. Bleed American has them in spades with some tasty guitar playing.
Futures is not as good, but still has it's moment.

I think that the new one Chase This Light is better than Futures, lots of poppy catchy tunes. Not as good as Bleed American though.

I'll have to check that out, cheers Thom.

James is right; what were the last NEW guitars Fender and Squier have come out with?
surely it can't really be the Squier 51 and Fender Tornado?!

At least CBS Fender was innovative.
Maybe once all the baby boomers who want the same old thing they idolized as kids are dead, Fender will be able to concentrate on new designs, instead of touting the huge advances of changing the saddle material on another god damn strat, just to convince baby boomers that they didn't screw it up somehow.
I'd go back further and say their last new design was the Performer, as they've all been pretty derivative since then (though the Venus almost wasn't). Honestly I think that Fender stopped technological innovation at the Jaguar... Everything they made after that was some degree dumber.
I know it's 80s as hell and I should hate it, but oddly I don't. Not that I've ever seen/played one

Plenty of love for the Performer here. However the last one on ebay went for over a grand in PUNDS.

It looks like a Jetsons/transformers/Jem and the Holograms guitar (the guitars I idolized growing up, as most actual bands in the 80s I even thought were shit back then), and not as 80s metal as it probably actually is, which is why I love it. Plus they still really do look like something Fender would make, oddly.
I really, really hope they sound good.

It looks gash. Like a smiley face that could have been good but they kept adding mustaches and glasses to it.
