Wow, I guess this was not the place to go to convince me out of this purchase, haha. It seems we are witnessing a bit of a pendulum swing against the humbucker hate.

Well, I did a little more research about this particular guitar and I think it is a korean Greco. in the 80s there were japanese and korean ones (made by Cor-Tek aka Cort). the key things to notice are no serial number stamped on the back of the headstock. The "Open O" on Greco (also the little slash though the middle of the diamond inlay). the wires are the thin kinds not like the wire braided ones on the MIJs. it still looks like a nice guitar though, it has the "long tennon" construction like MIJ Grecos and real Gibsons. I dunno I'm still not sure.

woops, I kind of misspoke here. I edited it afterwards so it doesn't make any sense. I meant I could get a Greco LP cheaper than a Jag or Mustang. A jagmaster would definitely still be cheaper.

The forum's popular opinion of what things suck changes about every 3 months. Don't let it dictate what you like. Hell I've posted on these forums from the beginning (and like 3 years or so on jag-stang.com prior to that) and still have never owned a fender short scale guitar.

me too. seriously. dont let some random guy from the internet tell you what's cool. you have to decide for yourself what sounds good and what doesnt. the only way to do that is to get off your ass and try everything out for yourself.
i say go for the greco. if you already have some single coil equipped guits, then it wont hurt to have a dual-hum one, especially if the going price is good enough.

Looks like a real player on paper. Should clean up nicely (no idea why the person selling it didn't try to clean it up more than that). Wonder what's under the mystery boss sticker...

That's a real bargain - the Korean ones are OK, the MIJ ones are ace.

i got a seymour duncan mini humbucker and thought i would fit it. i measured it up and thought yes, it's gonna work. the humbucker was too deep, even though there designed to fit without modding. i thought i'd take a bit of wood out to make clearance. i slipped with the chisel and took paint off the top round the pickup. i don't think i've ever wanted to cry so much before.

i carrried on fitting it, got it all wired and strung up. after playing it for half an hour, i wished i'd not bothered.

so i changed it back, now reliced lol.

The damage isnt as bad as I thought, I was envisioning like a big SLASH across the face of the guitar.
