This is cool. Good job.Fran wrote:Control cavity routed this morning, sanded back and last coat of sanding sealer applied.
Not much spare time with the rest of this week but the next stage is the dreaded painting. Next door has an Air Brush which i am tempted to borrow, i really dont fancy struggling with aerosols again, plus they seem economically inefficient.
What are peoples thoughts to a neck with binding going on this? Would it look too none Mosrite despite having the same headstock?
Its not one of the newer ones by any chance?benecol wrote:Sounds nice - post a pic?Fran wrote:Aria Ventures model. Its awesome, the P90s sound mint.benecol wrote:I'm confused though, did you not buy that Eastwood as well Fran?

Yep, but in red. I got it new with a lowball offer, did'nt expect the seller to go for it seeing as i offered £50 less than he wanted.Noirie. wrote:Its not one of the newer ones by any chance?benecol wrote:Sounds nice - post a pic?Fran wrote:Aria Ventures model. If it was one of the old Aria Diamond models it would have cost me about as much as a Mosrite.
Anyway. Today, the neck arrived and all the bridge malarky. I mock put it together and its looking good, i just need to drill out/glue-in the post holders for the bridge and tail piece then its ready to paint. The neck is quite nice and makes this guitar Gibson scale (24.75), the binding is a nice touch but the back is painted black. So i could well be refinishing or stripping the neck too.

as an aside, i'm positive i saw a 60s mosrite ventures model on the vintage and rare guitars site going for £750 a couple of years ago, then i read that they sell for $5000?? d'you think they'd left a zero off it? maybe it was a reissue, but it wasn't listed as such, it said 1960-something. it had funny multi-coloured star inlays.
anyway, carry on...
anyway, carry on...

Based on how that budget Strat sounds, and the Lindert i would say it is sonically crisp and bright. But the single coils in them two guitars may be a big factor on that, interestingly the Plywood BC Rich i owned was also a bright sounding guitar in comparison to the mahogany neck thru model anyway.
I know manufacturers traditional prefer ash or alder over mahogany for 'brighter' sounds which is due to density i believe. Mahogany is more open grain, but you would assume once a good coat of finish is applied it would cancel a lot of these things out. I think the comparisons are more evident on the maple vs rosewood fretboard theory.

I picked the paint up today for the main color and started. I've chosen VW pastel white.
Its a slightly off white to give the guitar a more aged look about it, there was a Ford Ivory but it was too dramatic. The guitar would have looked like it had been played in smokey clubs for the last 30 years which imo would have been too false looking.
Hopefully it will be at the lacquer stage for monday. Meanwhile i need to pick up some wire and a jack, also bite the bullet on buying a mini humbucker. Having said that there is plenty of work to do on the neck yet.. sorry for the slow progress.
