if i bought a new guitar and wanted it to be worn, i'd rather do the wearing myself, is all. i'd be tempted to refinish the body, which would completely defeat the purpose. i'm sure they're nice guitars, i just don't think i'd buy one, not new anyway.

i'm actually thinking of going up to the guitar shop this afternoon to get some bits, so i'll have a play about while i'm there, they have a few in stock. perhaps i'll change my mind? who knows...

The point of my corksniffer comment is that if you think Nitro or Poly makes a difference to the way a guitar sounds (it's principle application) or you just care because POLY IS BAD LOLZ then you're a nutter, a corksniffer, or worse; benecol.

nah, the only reason i'd opt for nitro over poly would be for neck wear, not for any sound reasons. i didn't even know until a few months back that people claim it sounds better. i've led a rather sheltered life in the area of guitar paint arguments.

What's the American Special supposed to be? Cheaper than the Standard, surely going up against the Highway One?

Glossy finish and Texas Special pickups. They're thinning out the Highway 1 finish options (no honey blonde or midnight wine) and adding these as a step in-between.

Moving on from your hate for one moment, I'm a little confused as to why Fender are making this thinline and the the regular 69ri - they're both exactly the same, n'est-pas? They should make a thinline version of a 72 deluxe ri (humbucker neck, tele bridge) - that's sell like hot cakes.

I would consider buying one of the rosewood fretboard road worns if they were like half the price. the maple fretboard ones look atrocious. it truly looks like they attempted to relic the fretbard in the most unrealistic way possible so you wouldn't get it confused with the real thing (or the custom shop job).
