Rod, just out of curiosity, what did you use for primer?

Phil - I use BIN shellac based primer. It makes a good base to seal the under coating, even when they are incompatible with the top coat.
Rob - Good news buddy, it's done.
I just finished sanding and buffing. The pictures don't really show how fucking glossy it is, nor do they show how green it is either. They do however show where I sanded through near the neck pocket. The filling turned out pretty good although it's not perfect and there are a couple of spots where I over sanded during the prep. You can't tell unless you look at just the right angle. Oh, yeah, and then there's the stains where the tint coat dripped.
I'm sure I'm making it out to sound worse than it is, but I'm still happy with the way it turned out.

No, not yet. I had a plan to build a new guitar, but it hasn't worked out.
Now all I need to do is get it shipped back to you and I also need to get my passport renewed, so I'm going to try to kill two birds with one stone. There is no way I'm going to the post office near my house, the line is over an hour wait on average so I'll have to go to one near my office. I can't be sure what day I can get down there, but I'll let you know once I mail it.
Do me an favor and PM me your address again.

Thanks - that's the same thing I used on my Duo Sonic, and I am really happy with that as a primer, and with how the project turned out - and I'm not very handy with stuff like painting.
That Bronco looks fantastic - I really like the "aged" look of the SFG. Nice work Rod - and congrats Rob!

BIN is great, but you really have to move fast with it. It runs and sags like a motherfucker if you don't keep the can moving. Each coat turns out pretty transparent, but as you build them up and get the paint flowing right it only takes a quick sanding before the top coat goes on.
What I like about Rob's guitar is that I did the tint coats before the clears. That means the tint directly effected the over all color and will never wear off with time, just get darker with age.
In contrast I've used tint coats over top of the clears to give an aged look, but as the guitar gets played the tinted top coat will wear and show brighter colors in those spots.
