The Laney Head is actually a PA head so as you can imagine it is very clean.

Whenever I did this with the OCD I got the best results at about 1/4 gain on the OCD......its kind of a balancing act if you know what I mean....just enough to flavor

Yeah, in the last band i often used a Tubescreamer and Big Muff together... I'll have to try it with the Fuzz Face..

You might wanna check this out at Hotrox: COOPERSONIC VALVESLAPPER. Have you come across it before? It is a tube distortion with two tubes, at higher gain settings it gets fuzzy. VG bass control.

Jason Pierce has one.

I'll check them out, anything Jason Pierce has used evokes intrigue in me.

Just had a mess around in the house through the Laney Head, different combinations of pedals in different order. Oddly an Indy modified SD-1 into a DS-2 (mode 2) yielded the best results. That was with the Strat and Mockingbird (P90s). With the Burns Cobra the silicon Fuzz Face sounds much better, whether that is because that guitar is in standard tuning or the Tri-Sonics have the mojo i dont know.
Seems like Fuzz alone is'nt liking the low A tuning and in the gain stakes less is actually more in terms of cutting through.

As we know, everything changes at rehearsal volume though

HUGE factor! I play through a totally clean 1970s Laney Valve Head. I noticed on some video demo's the guys amps are already crunching up before they engage the pedal, which is a bit misleading.

That is where i'm thinking of going. Ideally i could do with trying a few out i have'nt tried before. It seems clear i'm looking at Fuzz/Distortion crossovers, tried all the Big Muffs and tbh i got better results with the Dano Cool Cat Fuzz and Roger Mayer Spitfire although they lacked on sustain for lead.

I was gonna also suggest the Behringer Superfuzz, but It sucks clean. Through a slightly crunchy amp/OD pedal it shines, very Sleep-ish vibe.

Yeah i like the Sleep tone, dirty but with enough clarity. I did have one of these pedals bit it was just pure filth, i got lost in the mix instantly.

We'll go to hot rox and try some stuff out. You get to rock pedals out through a carlsbrough 50 top head and cab. Thinking of trying every boost in the shop.

Nice, them Top 50 heads are good amps. What days do you work Rob? I can get the odd day off here and there but weekends are'nt looking good at the moment.

Cool, they were originally built 5 minutes from my house in Kirkby-in-Ashfield. Would love to find one, my mate reckons one went on ebay cheap a while back.

There's one for sale in my local, want about £350 for it.

I love mine but tend to use my Bassman more as it's a bit smaller. There's a photo of it in the 'show of your gear' thread.

No. But I have just bought a version 1 one for £60. Getting it later this week...

Hotrox stock the new one (the red one with rude name). I think they price match. I've seen new ones online elsewhere for £100, not RRP £150 as at Hotrox. The prices were reduced everywere to £100 for a short period a few months ago.

After browsing endless demo's another pedal has caught my ear; Fulltone Catalyst. I like the kind of Overdrive/Fuzz crossover it seems to produce with a good tonal range. The last Fulltone pedal i owned was a 70 Fuzz which was a bit meh although build quality was good.
