I really don't care much for all the gaudy chrome on the jaguar. mustangs look much cooler to me. I think jaguars and jazzmasters are kind of large and cumbersome, I like to be able to pick the guitar up and hold it close to my body. also, I prefer the mustang controls to the jaguar ones. I really like the sound and look of jazzmasters though.

See, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Watch that video compared to the Yngwie one. The whole band is playing that song, not just Gilbert.

I was quite anti shred-widdle but Gilbert gave me a new insight. He certainly brings something different to the table.

And for the record I prefer Jags. Large body and shortscale neck is just perfect. They're the prettiest guitars out there IMO... I also find them very versatile, to the point where I can't really justify owning another guitar for what I play... it wouldn't get used. My 60s jazzmaster lives in a case eating up insurance.

My main gripe with the mustang is the body size... it just doesn't feel sufficient for me, especially being a chubba like Yngwie.

I AM LEGEND
I know, but seriously. I do not understand this stuff. Is it a big joke that I'm not quite in on? I can listen to Paul Gilbert, for instance, and think "Wow, that's impressive. Not my thing, but it's alright". It's virtuoso stuff, but it's also musical. Then there's Yngwie or Jaco Pastorius and I can't help thinking that maybe they're tone-deaf mental patients who nobody has had the heart to go up to and say "Mate, seriously, just put it down, it sounds like ass." It doesn't even sound like these guys can fucking play.

"Ooooh, I can do microtonal bends on my scalloped fretboard!" WHY THE FUCK WOULD THAT BE AT ALL USEFUL IN WESTERN ROCK MUSIC. WHAT THE FUCK.
Jaco and Yngwie are miles apart. There's literally no comparison other than that they were both kind of fast.

Also, what is Western Rock Music?

I think I'm gonna have to give my nod to the Jaguar based on neck and body shape. As said, sound is not the biggest issue with the ability to swap pickups.
Vista Jagmaster neck is a Japanese Jaguar neck.

Microtones are more often found in eastern music as far as I'm aware. They're not a major part of westernised ideas of music. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be, but if such an innovation were to be made I highly doubt a leather-clad fatty called Yngwie with scalloped frets is going to be the one to introduce it to the mainstream.

"I am your new God."

I like both Jaguars and Mustangs. I own a Mustang... but actually, I'd rather have my Duo Sonic II than either of them.

I dont have a jag or jazzmaster, only a mustang so I prefer that by default. Although I would quite like both.

How can anyone find the definitive answer to which guitar is liked better anyways, all comes down to personal taste for a myriad of reasons I guess. Horses for courses eh!

I don't have a Mustang yet, but I am in the process of building two. I have an AVRI Jaguar and a 1978 Musicmaster. I am tall so the Jaguar body fits me well and the tonal options seem limitless. Neck is glossy and smooth. NO other guitar quite sounds like it. My Musicmaster is smaller but I love the feel and the shape of the smaller body. Even without contours its so easy and the one pickup is freshly to play. The Mustang is basically the same as the Musicmaster with more pickup options and trem. If it can surpass the Musicmaster, I think it will be my favorite over the Jaguar. That said we shouldn't fight about which one is better, just get both and the problem is solved. :)

That is hilarious. The one thing that struck me in both videos is how processed his sound is. I have no idea what the guitar actually sounds like. While I respect his technique, there is more to playing guitar than going really fast. Speed is kinda of novelty and if you use it too much it begins to lose its spark. Great players can play fast and slow and know when to change the tempo vs. playing all out all the time. It's one of the reasons I am not a fan of 80's guitar in general because speed is only part of the equation.
