Those basses are amazing!
I figure that the blacktops are listed at 683 pounds but you figure they'll be around $499 on the street so, so 599/683*347 is approx $300, for the price of the Mustang Bass. Nice price.

The easier way to do that conversion is
Fender UK price = £x
Fender US price = $x
regardless of the exchange rate.
The US price will probably actually be lower than what you'd get now, but then the UK price will drop a little too.

Oddly, I find both of those basses extremely desirable. On one hand, it makes more sense to have humbuckers on a Jazz, but the splits look nicer on the Jazz, makes more aesthetic sense.
As much as I'm a one pickup short scale bass kinda guy, that Jazz Bass has me wondering.

I'm skeptical of the Blacktop basses... I'm not generally a bass humbucker fan, but the Jazz might be OK, as long as the pickups aren't TOO hot.

It's not the split in the bridge, it's this:
Blacktop Jazz Bass features dual Blacktop split-coil Precision Bass pickups that pack a powerful one-two tonal punch.
implying hot winds. Hot winds are fine enough; for example, I intend to install a SD Hot Jazz in the bridge of my Aerodyne... but, I have concerns that the Blacktop style might be too hot (similar to the guitars).

I don't see hot winds implied there. Even standard Precision Bass pickups are said to have punch.

I don't think overly hot would be a concern. Overly bright on the D and G strings maybe because of how close the pickup is to the bridge. I feel like that pickup should have been reversed like the one on the new mark hoppus bass, but that would probably go against the aesthetics of the bass. Either way, I'm intrigued at how it will sound and am definitely going to check one out when they hit the stores!

Likewise, I can't see myself not buying one. Likely will make the vintage ones even cheaper, too.

Which will still be a good price, but considering I picked up my Reissue for $425 or so...
What I really hope is that with the Mustang Bass becoming more visible, there will be better pickup options. Right now, there's Duncan Designed, vintage, Aero, and custom. That's it. As amazing as the Aero pickup is, surely we can do better.

would buy for $200, need a bass. Would rather have a Stingray or G&L etc but cheap ass bass for fuzz riffs why not

Double P is tits magee. Add a mudbucker right under the neck and a jazz pup right up against the bridge and you'd have world's greatest bass, OFFICIALLY

Seeing as it's part of the vintage modified series $279 to $299 seems about right. But I'm hoping for $249 since it seems like they price the short scales a little bit lower than the rest, at least with the jag basses.
