honestly I haven't played it that much. it had a black nut on it that was kinda broke on both ends. I just got around to taking it to a vintage pro guy...new white nut cut for 13s and new setup...polished frets oiled board...the works. plays amazing and still looks old as dirt. there are a couple videos up of it on roetube

UGLY GUITAR UPDATE: Dude selling the aforementioned Swing T-Thru I am admittedly GAS'ing for just sent me pics. Just my luck, it's not the rosewood or what I thought was the bubinga top, but TEH BURLz!!!11 (discontinued before the others...we can only guess why). Seriously, I imagine it looks like someone grilled an elephant placenta over a spit and sliced it in half, and with the matte finish it really does look diseased even worse. I might have to pull an awkward Waylon Jennings and have my friend stich some Gucci web fabric to create a handbagcaster for when seen in public.

Gonna start another thread for an eventual review, but I did end up buying the thing and absolutely love it.

The college freshman(exactly half my age) who sold it to me was all freaked out seeing that I wasn't Korean (20 text messages between the two of us + the fact that I bought him an ice latte so we could sit and talk about the guitar), that he was absolutely silent as we made the switch. He bought it new, strung it up all backward and gave it a few hits on the headstock and body over the years, and now had to sell it to cover tuition.


Long story longer, it's an original from about 5 years ago, before Swing started making them in mahogany. The hippy sandwich neck is straight as an arrow(thank goodness), and is made of good ol' cheapo Asian mahogany (nato) with peanut butter maple streaks in between. The wings are called "barnce", but I have zero info on it an can only note that the sort of dent on the back corner indicates it it a softer hardwood, with a rather "boring" grain not dissimilar to basswood. All in all, it's fairly light(I'm guessing about 6.5 to 7lbs), but remarkably resonant.

Pickups are decent. Rails in humbucker mode are hot and bright (yay) with plenty of crunch and less mids than my Yamaha. When split they sound a bit "less than half" in output yet have a lot of chime not unlike my CIJ ST68 "Thom Strat" in more ways than one, with split neck tone being really open and woody sounding. I've never had a guitar with a hardtail Strat bridge, and though there are no springs in the back to provide those delightful harmonics when picking arrpegiated lines, the guitar is very resonant and makes up for things with some lovely sustain and overall brighter tone. Just tracked a tune Cindi and I will be releasing later this year, and have no complaints for a $180 almost-new guitar with just a crunch in the wood here and there that covers more ground than anything in my quiver(save the Yamaha SG).

The grilled elephant placenta is here to stay. Love it.
