I don't see the confusion... there's been several sources in this thread saying it's fender japan. it would pretty amazing if somehow they were ALL wrong. and that's not even considering that they cost the same as the japanese mustangs, look rather a lot like japanese mustangs, have been made no where other than japan for the last 30 years, and there's even been models similar to this made in japan previously.

despite this mountain of evidence, including 1st hand statements, pointing to the fact that it's made in fender japan, I suppose there is some sliver of a possibility that reality is not actually as we perceive it, everything in this thread is an illusion and they are actually made somewhere other than japan.

Japanese Mustangs don't have trouble staying in tune. You're just doing it wrong.

Also what makes you think Mexico could do any of the things you've mentioned more likely than Japan?

They rarely use brand name pickups (although they're usually decent), their hardware is no better than Japan, they've rarely made 7.25" radius necks, they've never made a Mustang, etc.

Whereas Japan has made Mustangs for nearly 30 years, been manufacturing slim C profile 24" scale 22-inch necks (something Mexican Fenders have NEVER had), have all the parts necessary for the KC Mustang right there (the Tune-O-Matic could come right off of the Jaguar Special HH, which also has 7.25" radius), AND FENDER SAID IN THAT VIDEO THAT THEY'RE MADE IN THE SAME FACTORY AS KURT'S JAPANESE MUSTANGS for fuck's sake.

Are you really that dense? You act like Fender Japan has never made an alder instrument before. They have alder in the factory. Mustangs have been available in ash, basswood, and poplar for some time now, and it's not hard to feed alder into a fucking CNC router.

And not all MG69s are even basswood at this moment. The BECK model is poplar with competition stripes. Like the Cobain, it's a special model, they can do whatever the fuck they want.

And what else, look at this:

Too bad its not poplar.

But on the other hand I don't give a rats ass about wood species never really did if the guitar works they way I want it.

Suffice is to say that I don't fall into category MPL/RW (cream=brite brown=dark :: sounds) board anal commandos .
. .
Not sure why I wrote this post.

Maybe I was amused by the recent course of this thread... haha I smell trolls :P .

my jag-stang never stayed in complete tune until mad-mike guide tuning after it 100% in tune. before a simple bend was enought for make out of tune.
also it´s come gigantic high action from factory , rusty strings , rusty screws, chinese tuners "ping brand" , awesome .
good quality

wasn´t kurt that aways said : I love mustangs , except they never stay in tune making me disassembly entire and build up again. ?

Poplar is superb , i never complained @ poplar. it´s also original wood from much north American Stratos and mustangs.
Basscheapo becomes whit Japanese copy´s in fall 69´ and plus whit CBS and Japanese guitars invasion. Cheapo wood whit sound close enough
today basscheapo got replaced by Nato and Aghatis can see all cheapo guitars are made of Aghatis (alder replace) or Nato (mahogany replace).

some people just buy frustration.

You can't compare mid 90s MIJ (like your Jag Stang) with the current crop, IMO. The quality of hardware, build quality, all that is better now and overall the stuff coming out of Japan right now is far superior to the stuff from the mid 90s and on par with American made instruments.

Rusty strings? Rusty screws? Your dealer must have sucked. Ping brand tuners are used on a lot of Fenders, a lot of MIMs, they're not shit. They're fine.

Basswood? It's wood. It is favored by a lot of people out there. It's a cheap wood, yes, but guess what, poplar is even cheaper than basswood, and alder and ash are not far behind. Just because they're "vintage correct" doesn't lend them any more credibility. Agathis hasn't replaced basswood at all. There are a lot of rather expensive instruments made from basswood, from builders like Fender, Suhr, Ibanez, etc. You don't see that so much with agathis.

Japanese Mustangs and Jaguars are not a lottery game. I have had several and all of them (except for the mid-90s '69 Mustang) have been great. How many have you had? One?

And that model happens to be basswood. Coincidence? ;)

Those mid-90s Mustangs have fantastic necks on them, but I'm generally not a fan of basswood. I feel it lacks overtones and complexity. To me, alder and poplar sound a lot alike - alder's generally "prettier" visually, which is probably why it tends to be more expensive. I've had good luck with poplar bodied guitars, and generally poorer luck with basswood bodied ones. I know a lot of people like it, but it doesn't do as well for me. I'd rather have the current '65 RI in terms of the poplar body, but with the neck profile of that mid-90s neck.

I hope they stick with that thin neck on the Cobain sig models.

I think you're alone in this, Icey; my mid 90s Jag-Stang came set-up perfectly and I never had trouble keeping it in tune.

Okay, thats youre problem then. If you dont believe what people tells you then fine.
Im not giving any serial.

The tuning i stable if youre doing it right. No matter what bridge you have. You can get a 100 dollars squier to sound right you should get a mustang or a jag-stang to get in tune?

And for the last time, its made in Japan! And Japan guitars rocks!!!

I can only say that I didn't had probs with Pings in my CP60s strat...

However I like Diamond "F" tuners in my AVRI 70s even more.

But Pings aren't bad tuners, at least mine weren't, even in the CV50s Tele I now have.

Gotohs > Pings for me; I think Mike is bang out of line for taking it upon himself to describe Pings as the nation's favourite tuner. But it's a welcome detour away from honeyiscool's OCD trolling of anyone who dare question Japanese Mustangs.

Played a lefty LPB one at lunchtime today and I have to say it was really nice.
The finish looked great, a nice dark LPB as opposed to some gaudy versions I have seen.
The neck felt wider than my Jagstang, Jag and old MG-69, but not massively so. Shape felt flatter on the back than all of those guitars too.
If I can shift a few more things I can see myself getting one for my birthday.

You can tell they are quality right away... I'm very satisfied, and don't have tuning problems on that Strat.

Ash Strat on Oak floor :D

The only prob with those Fs is - I don't know if you could put .11s fat E string in that hole, they really are tight much more so than Pings.
But if you play on 8s, 9s or 10s you shouldn't have a prob.
