My '87 Kramer Baretta


I think people hate to much on superstrats cause they are too metölzz but this is the best playing guitar ive ever own.

If anyone's interested, for $60 it looks like a hell of a project

I like the symmetry of 3x3's on SG's and LP's, but that guitar with it's offset body would really benefit from a matching offset headstock. The symmetry of the 3x3 is jolting visually and seems out of place on that guitar. Still, that is one bad ass guitar.

I remember when this came out and guys on OSG were just bashing it .... I got to play one of the lower end ones , a flat black one , and it played actually pretty fucking nice .. The neck pickup kinda sucked but the rest of it was really nice .. Especially for the money .. $400 I think it was .. Really nice ....

The old Barettas are a class act and being a teenager around the time of superstrat headonism I can't ever give up my RG550s

I got really fed-up with the one on my Ibanez S270 (which I owned for a number of months when I was 18), but time and experience has made me like 'em loads.. just gotta learn the idiosyncrasies. And never use alternate tunings.

The tension is a bit of a bitch with 11s though, it's like wrestling an alligator's jaws at times.

I think at one point I had 13's on a locking trem guitar, it's all about balance, getting the spring tension in the rear to balance the string tension over the front of the guitar - same as a strat trem when you float it. If you get it right, alternate tunings shouldnt be a problem.
The one chap from Def Leppard plays 13s on his floyd trem guitars - it's a given though, that lots of touring will improve them finger muscles.

definitely want a mockingbird. there was a red acrylic one for sale here, but i was broke. I think Fran has or had the green acrylic one. I really like that gold top one too.

Love them Burny versions. I've always wanted an Eagle but you never see them at a fair price in the UK. Although there was one but it had a huge spread eagle inlay on the fretboard, i just have not got the balls to play such a thing

How exactly did you fix the neck? I think I remember you saying something about putting steel pins in?

I used two-part epoxy resin for acrylic/plastic. Arcadedave used pins previously but it came loose. I wasn't confident when i bought it and expected to buy a replacement neck but the resin has held up for over a year now.

Looks/sounds like that has an EMG 81 and 85. They are great guitars, when you get one you get this sense of youth and freedom with it. As a brand BC Rich screams loose your inhibitions.. loadsa fun!

The Mockingbird is definitely the classiest design B.C. Rich has. Mine is just a Bronze series one with the TOM bridge that I picked up used in high school, though. Swapped out the pickups for some Duncans. I've never noticed any problems with neck dive, but that's probably because the body on that thing weighs an unconscionable ton.

For a couple years I played an old borrowed Warlock with a Floyd, and I miss it so much. Everything about it just felt right. I should have just bit the bullet and bought it off the guy when it came time to return it. Every couple of weeks I prowl around ebay looking for one like it, but no luck so far. I wish I'd thought to check the year on it while I still had it.

Problem is, alternate tunings generally produce a different amount of string tension, so the spring tension is inevitably out of balance with the springs. There's no way getting around that I can see.
