that's not a completely nuts price on the comp red mustang... If the guy was willing to come down a bit it'd be a decent price in today's market IMO.

of course the blue ones with the matching headstock are worth a bit more due to higher demand.

I could get it for $1700 if that is fair I may buy it. The guitar plays great.

These kinds of pictures are a perfect example of why I should never go to guitar shows.

I think that mutilated stang came up here once when it was on eBay.

No I did not. I spent my day playing a few Gibson's and then I went on the hunt for a Telecaster. Then I ran into this guitar.

It was in a smaller booth kinda out of the way and then behind a few other guitars. I played it a bunch and was super hyped on it. I made the guy an offer of $1500 and he accepted it. So it is a done deal I own a Compstang. It is a 1970 and from what I can tell it is all original. I am super stoked I still have money left in the budget to pick up another guitar or a nice amp.

I actually think the guy was serious about the Jagstang I saw another one for $900.

My impressions from going to this show are. The dealers here need to lighten up. 99.9% of them do not even acknowledge you when you enter there booth, they just have this blank stare. The other thing is most of the prices are 25% over fair market value. That being said I had a blast.

I also had to grab this sticker it kinda fits my current situation LOL.

Thanks for the reply. But that Mustang was the first one I tried to buy. The one I bought is in the 4th from last photo in your Dallas guitar show picture thread. It is behind some other guitars. I think the one I bought was in better shape. Instead of a bunch of little nicks and gouges it has just one major ding. It looks like a cymbal cut on the upper part of the body. The one you quoted here was a very nice guitar and had everything original down to the case. I was not to concerned with having a Mustang case form another year and I saved some cash so I bought this one. Both are very nice guitars. The show was fun I will probably return next year. I met some pretty cool people and we had dinner at Bob's Steakhouse, that restaurant is almost worth coming to Dallas just to eat there LOL.

Also thanks for everyone's replies that were helpful it has been fun.

So I took the Mustang into my guitar guy today to get set up. After going over the guitar he told me the tuning pegs are not original which I was already 99% sure they were not and it needs a new nut. It looks like someone was playing it strung up left handed for awhile and blew out the nut. Other than those 2 issues it is in great shape and he felt I got a good buy. I am really happy I decided on this one instead of the other because the other would have needed a fret job for sure. I am still hunting for a Jazzmaster but this guitar was just too cool to pass up. I will let you guys know when I find it.

Thanks guys. I am really excited to get it back from the shop. It already played great minus the dead high E string I hope it plays even better once it is done!!!

Thanks I am actually tripping out that I like it so much. The more I thought about what I was going to buy the Mustang made perfect sense. I have a few other guitars and besides my avri Jazzmaster I realized I do not have a guitar with single coil pickups. I guess the Jazzmaster is technically a single coil but it is not the classic single coil sound I was missing. I was looking too fill that hole in my collection with a Telecaster but I do not like guitars without body contours. I have a Jagstang that I hardly ever play because the lack of body contours irritates me. I will take some good photos of the Mustang when I get it back this week I want to try and see if I can get the checking in the paint to show up in a photo.
