Decal issue aside, I admit that find the truss rod access at the headstock on these sorta disrupts the 'flow' of the their design, a bit.
However, this isn't something I'd care to pay three bills for and you can't gloss over the fact that that placement just makes more sense, anyway.
And yet... The OCD in me keeps glancing at the JM JM sitting in the rack with my other guitars, thinking of ways to make a maple plug to stuff in there....

I *like* the headstock truss rod access.
The look doesn't seem off to me, and I live in a climate that has large fluctuations in humidity and temperature; easy access for adjustment is a wonderful thing.
That said, I've had to make FAR fewer adjustments on my guitars, but I have to adjust my basses 2-4 times a year.
Really, I'd be happy if Fender put their adjusting screws at the headstock too.

OK that's a little bit personal (and unexpected). I was just trying to poke a little fun at the corksniffing of a budget model.laterallateral wrote:Also, are you ready for this? I still think you're a low rent twat.
Would you care to elaborate why you think I'm a "low rent twat"? I try to do right by people as best I can. I like to think I'm a good person. You seem to think otherwise.
Squiers are great guitars, well built and a very cheap price point.
my main beef is that they are so good, why not just put a fender decal on them.
I don't care if a guitar is made in Japan or China or Indonesia or Mexico. All these countries can produce fantastic instruments if the parent company lets them. Indonesia can product gear up to US standard, they are just not allowed to, cause Fender doesn't want to sell a guitar like that for 90 bucks.
My point is that I am a total brand snob. My squiers are great guitars. but I grew up brainwashed on Fender. thats what branding and marketing is meant to do, trick you into paying more for an inferior product but with a familiar logo.
I'll go very ape over a 60's mustang, or a MIJ mustang or a mustang made wherever, but it has to be a FENDER mustang. not a SQUIER mustang or a HONDO mustang. its retarded, but there you are.
I do wish that someone would come up with the idea of doing a mustang other than red, white or blue. in 60 years no ones thought of doing them Sherwood Green, Burgundy Mist, Inca Silver, Surf Green, or Charcoal Frost. even in Japan.

Because it's NOT Fender that's producing the instrument. Squier is a separate company with licensing rights to some Fender designs... that's different from being the same company.KPI wrote:Squiers are great guitars, well built and a very cheap price point.

It's not just the country that the instrument is made in, they have completely different chains of employees/administration, which is also where some of the savings come from.
Similarly, Fender Japan is NOT the same company as Fender USA/Mexico. They have separate administrations, separate laws and regulations, etc.

Shit! I guess I didn't catch the humour...Mike wrote:OK that's a little bit personal (and unexpected). I was just trying to poke a little fun at the corksniffing of a budget model.laterallateral wrote:Also, are you ready for this? I still think you're a low rent twat.

Provided you had been serious, your comment based on my aesthetic preference, especially in assuming that I'd even give a shit in the first place, is what would have come off as low rent (to mean gratuitous and uninspired) and twattish.
Again, as it seems I failed to see the humour in your comment, I take no offense and apologize for the one I made.

A lot of people complain about guitar companies being stuck in the 60s, but it's only because so many players are. Headstock access is 100% an improvement over heel access. Why wouldn't you want it there other than that it doesn't look the same as it did on earlier guitars?
There's no doubt at all that Squier will sell boat loads of these. This year should be pretty interesting for projects, too. I think a lot of people who had ideas based on these guitars but couldn't justify starting out with an MIJ Fender and adding parts on top are going to jump on these as modding platforms. I even had the exact same thought as Ultratwin about a baritone neck on the blue Jazzmaster.

Shabba.
Having similar models across the ranges ensures that they're hitting every price point too. Right now there's a huge section in the lower mid-priced range that's a huge grey area for what you're getting for the money, high end Squiers kicking low end Fender guitar butt!. it's a great time to buy guitars right now. Well apart from the economy.Ankhanu wrote:Because it's NOT Fender that's producing the instrument. why do you say that? recently a video was posted about a strat being made and while it was the US factory, the majority of the work was done by hand. if they're using manual labor in the country where it would be most expensive, I would assume they're doing it where labor is cheap too. I think you'd be surprised how much of the guitars we play are made with real people's hands and not CNC machines.KPI wrote:its a block of wood fed into a CNC machine, and a water slide decal.
its the same. A chicken mcnugget in the US is the same as a chicken mcnugget on the moon.

You're not going to find any sympathy here for your brand snobbery. Being a snob about which brand label is on the headstock is stupid.KPI wrote:Squiers are great guitars, well built and a very cheap price point.

Also, If Fender were to put their name on these and sell them at the same point it would create too much competition for their more expensive Japanese and Mexican made models. What would most likely happen is these would be increased in price to be much closer to the japanese and mexican models to eliminate some of that competition and just to appeal to stupid brand snobs like you and It would take cool, affordable guitars away from those of us that don't fucking care about such stupid shit.
