Thanks! I like little touches like that in stuff I work on. The trem covers it, but I will know it is there.

Hiding out.

I am in to the nitro clear coats now. I am guessing six or seven more coats before I can let her sit and dry.

Clear coats are all done, so it is in sit and dry mode... my least favorite mode because there is nothing I can do with it but wait. LOL

Damn. I so want this. Love the color. Did you think about a black guard? That would look fierce. I saw your old cobain jazzmaster on eBay by the way. It's going for $750.00 I don't know if that's you or that person you sold it to I guess.

The person I sold it to is trying to sell it. I doubt he will get $750 for a modded blacktop Jazzmaster. Hopefully he is being honest about it in the auction...

Yeah I think it's listed as a "custom jazzmaster" I don't think I read anything about it being a blacktop... I'm guessing not lol.

The description is honest so it is all good. He lists pretty much all the details. I don't think someone will buy it, but you never know.

My finishes are never perfect by any means. I use rattle paint cans and paint in my garage. I don't have a dust free environment, paint sprayer, machine buffer, etc. In some ways I like my finishes more for that. The little flaws show that it was done by hand. I of course always try to do the best I can, but also I understand that I am limited by the tools and space I have to use and work with it the best I can. My finishes are still good though. I have paid for hand made guitars with finishes way worse than even my first guitar paint job. There are just little things.
On this one for example: The first clear coat I used was defective and sprayed little white dust bits on to the body. I tried to sand it out the best I could and I can't find them currently, but I know they are there in a couple spots. Because of that sanding, there is a little SLIGHTLY darker bit of green by the forearm area from trying to get that stuff out.
You can see a little of the edge of the dowels were the original bridge holes were filled. Even though I filled it and epoxyed over, and wet sanded four layers of primer, there is still a faint circle. Most of it will be covered by the tremolo, but it will still be there. Most wouldn't notice, but I know it is there.
There is a little scratch by one of the TOM holes from removing the masking tape there. I am still going to try to lay it flat and fill it back in with clear coat, but I will need to wait until it is more dry to do that. Even that will be under the pickguard, but I care about details.
Nothing totally major or terrible, just little stuff.
Every paint job I do I learn from and try to do better on the next.

This is the fifth body I have ever painted and I think it is good. It will be even cooler when it is wetsanded and smooth.

Actually looks like today will work. I just went in and checked it out and it feels solid and doesn't smell. Means I should have it done tonight.

(It is a slow process for me because I like to do it all by hand.)

That's a good thing though! So your gonna wet sand it and polish it today? How does that polish work? It goes in to the tiny scratches and makes it glossy? Would that work on getting the scratches out of my cyclone?

The polish could get scratches out. It works like waxing a car. You put a little on and rub it around with a cloth. Then use a dry cloth to polish the compound off.
Here it is wetsanded smooth.

With parts sitting on top. (And a regular mint guard so you can see the color scheme.)

So there are two options. I have it hanging again in my office. I could send it tomorrow to you. I think it would be fine. If you want the paint to cure a bit more before I ship it I could ship it Monday or Tuesday instead. I am going to sent it in a pillow case wrapped in bubble wrap. The pillow case is to try to make sure the paint doesn't get any marks from bubble wrap.
Let me know what you would prefer.

That is actually a mint guard. I think the green throws off the mint look.
