Hope I can during my holiday break. I have been slowed down a little with life things, but that is ok I am in no hurry. It took about a month for the trapezoid bridge to get here and I did not want to cut any pickguards until I got that in. I hopefully I can get them cut soon then do the final body routes. So I think priming and painting can be on the way. I will try and do some paint samples/tests this weekend.

I had to redesign the pickguard for the trapezoid and SSS configuration tonight. The bridge is a lot bigger so I had to scale and re shape the guard. I think this is looking pretty good. Any comments or critiques would be appreciated. This guitar is going to be cream with a mint pickguard and chrome pickups.

Anyone know where I can find this type of pickup cover?

Brian May styled pickups from GFS have a similar look, but I don't know of a supplier for just the covers

I saw THESE a while back

Maybe team them up with something like
THIS?

You would probably need to cut the plastic covers down, probably just use the tops, but you could make a pretty good facsimile.

Playing with my purple pearl pigments today. They say to mix around 25g to quart of paint. That comes to ~0.3 g per 12mls. So I weighed it out and added it to a bottle of clear nail polish I had at work. Painted over an old black phenolic resin bottle cap that I had laying around. Three coats and a couple of straight clear on top.

Might as well just drop this here as well. Made it for someone wanting to know how to cut a pickguard but it is for one of these guitars.

was just at my local favorite guitar shop and the let me rummage through their big box of random pickups. Got these for $20. Maybe they are teiscos? They both measure in at around 5.5. The rings make them look like surface mount for a hollow body or maybe directly to wood with no guard. Anybody play these before? Kind of a change from what I was initially looking to do, but they match the guitar. If I cut a guard for them I am kind of committed to them or waste some pickguard material making a new one.

I don't think teiscos ever used Phillips head pole screws, but I guess they could be aftermarket or some kind of rare shit that no one cares about.

Personally, I would find something else because you don't know if they work or even sound like you want them to, and not to mention they are gaudy as shit on a solid-body.

Yeah, you are probably right. But if I did mount them it would be with out the mounting ring. Like a normal single coil on a pickguard. I might wire them up and use a piece of cardboard as a guard just to see how they sound. Hmmm?

Said fuck it and whipped out another poplar body. The ply one wasn't doing it for me and there was a shitty void in the neck pocket that I didn't care to dick around with.

Here is where I am now.

Love those pickups! They look similar to the pickups in a Kawai teardrop guitar.
Worth way more than $20.
Sounds like a very cool guitar shop. 8) If they have any more pickups from old Teisco style guitars you should grab 'em.
Check out the money that some of those pickups sell for on ebay. It's crazy.

Thanks cooterF I may just go with a swimming pool route on the single coil guitar and make it easy to change if I want to.

Cut a new black pickgaurd today for the humbucker version. Was a little worried a bout getting the thimble holes lined up, but it turned out perfect. This is the guitar that will be purple.

OK got most of my electronics in and am doing mockups. Placement of knobs switches and all that type of thing.

the 2 bucker will have the chicken head on a five way rotary switch (if I can figure out how to make it fit the thickness of the body, its a 4p5T rotary thing). And with the single coil one, I will be using a black lever switch like the one below on a three way rotary switch, but I has not come in the mail yet.

Dude this looks so awesome. Just a reminder to me that if I buy shit to make guitar bodies I'll be making them constantly like you are.

IE I need to leave that shit to others who know what they are doing.

I really dig that bridge and the way you beveled the pickguard around it. That plus the chickenhead knob, those pickups and the pickguard shape.
It's exactly the kind of build I'm in to. 8)
Check out some of this guys builds.

Thanks for the kind words guys. That vulture guitar guy does some cool stuff. I got a thing for those old Japanese styles, but a lot of them have issues. That is what got me into thinking about just making the body styles I like and put them together how I want. Also most of them have googly headstocks that turn me off.

I got out the soldering iron tonight and slapped on some cheap stings to see what I got. Wanted to make sure there were not going to be problems with the set up before shooting paint. I was planning on cream, but is not too late to change my mind. Want it to be some sort of old 60's japanese or vox type color. Any ideas let me know. The pickguard is mint. I was very happy that the guitar rings when strummed and I didn't have to touch or wiggle a thing to get the neck aligned. My wife said is sounds good but turn it the fuck down.

Any way, give me some color ideas for this guitar. Maybe a pale robins egg blue?
