The bridge pickup in it was sounding really wussy. I knew it was because the pickup was too low, but was being lazy about taking the guitar apart and putting in new foam... until today. I needed to add a shim because the bridge couldn't get low enough without hitting the mute, so it seemed like a good time to shim. The stock foam was basically squished plastic now. No spring left in the poor stuff.

Once I added in the foam and did my shim, the height and action were fixed!

Still love looking at this guitar. Moving forward with refin or rethinking it?

I feel this guitar needs as little changed with it, looks wise. It looks rustic, and certainly 50 years old; paint would ruin the m@j@.

LOL True. The aged maple does match the body pretty well. :)
