im actually now trying to save some money for an Classic Vibe or an Standart Telecaster.
Any advice, I kind of like them both. The bridge one the CV is more 'vintage' if I understand correctly, but the alder is supposed to be a 'better' wood for a
body?

But Ive always dreamed about an black telecaster with binding and an maple neck. Im a boring guy !

This weeks telecaster of choice would be: Squier affinity Tele - toploader, lake placid blue, alder body £160 what's not to like...

Affinity Teles are £160 now? That seems a little steep. Isn't the body thin on those? I can't tell from the pic. Also: woeful pickups in the MIM Std Tele suggests these will be worse. Colour is nice though. Jack isn't.

I take it the £20 price increase is due to them using alder, I had a affinity strat and the pickups on that were pretty good better than expected any way.

What's the preferred color for a Thinline? I already have a natural.

The preferred colour is black.

Had one of the butterscotch ones, the pickups were so micro phonic. Needing up wax potting them myself.

often think about chasing down a contoured tele but they seem really far and few between

You've answered your own question... second place is white, you can't see the f hole properly on black

When I bought my MIM a few months ago I almost went the whole hog and bought a USA Standard. The current ones have a rear contour, and I lurve the mystic blue colour. Another fully contoured option is from Willows guitar (the guyz who did all that quality work for Ultratwin). Unfortunately the horn is a bit extended and they've called it 'The Twig'. It's about £315, which is pretty nice considering the high spec.

the trisonic-esque pickup looks ace, and i could live with that horn

that might be the one

tummy contour is great but the extra forearm contour is what i'm after, plus US teles are too expensive for me

Brilliant guitar !!
This for all your chickin-pickin tones. The MIM would be my second choice, but I am curious how the MIM and USA pickups sound side by side? I would bet that the MIM is virtually identical except for country of origin. Anyone own both?

I've been considering one for a while, but for some reason the lack of colours put me off. I enquired about getting a body from them and they're quite reasonable. I don't know whether they'd build a Twig with a custom colour body though.

But the cool things this guitar has: body contours, contoured heel, recessed strap buttons (!?), coil split, compensated nut. I'm surprised there's nothing about them anywhere.

These are what the MIM Tele ships with these days. They're bog standard ceramic pickups. You can see why the bridge pickup doesn't sound remotely tele-ish.

that twig definitely has a fine set of stats

yeah i've seen the mim standards have moved to cermaic bar magnets. my goddamn affinity strat from 1998 had that shit.

the 2003 mim tele still didn't have what i would consider "nice" pickups. certainly no baseplate on the bridge pickup, which i suppose is up for debate as to whether they're vital to the tele sound, but in any case i associate a base plate with proper tele pickups
