Isn't this another "main guy is a total ringpiece" issue, or are the guitars that bad?
Yet to play a good one (have played three - one Korean, two MIC, all bobbins).

P.S. The guy on the video is a regular poster on TDPRI and Mylespaul. I don't know him, but he seems like a great guy. I wonder if he knows about the shortscale, cause he might become a great poster here.

Sometimes, the chase is better than the catch, RITE

Loving this fella from Framus, aside from the non-intonatable bridge, that'd need replacing:

Liek.

I want 'buckers, most of my guitars have singles and the noise when playing near a PC (I play along to stuff on youtube these days) gets annoying.

The Hofner Colorama RI wasn't a bad DC, quite quirky. Considered teh Epi Wilshire as well.

Love that. You should also look at the recent Melody Maker reissues - they're pretty cheap and pretty good (think Rob had one?).

If you had issues with the Danelectro, you probably won't like this. It's a hollow plywood construction not unlike the Dano, with weakish vintage single coils. I've had one on my list for a while, but since no one bought them when they were new, there aren't any second hand.

I dug my DC-3 out a couple of days ago and am really enjoying it. The pickup selector is crazy - lots of options for in-between sounds. The bridge pickup on its own is just like in that video- rattly and anaemic as anything, but once you turn up it's really not bad. The 25" scale is a bit odd after playing strats and teles - maybe thicker strings needed. Also the fretboard is flatter than I'm used too, but that's not a big deal.

Doog, what happened to your Jetking? That was a meat-n-potatoes guitar disguised as something a bit odd. Are you specifically after single coils?

Do an Italia Maranello? (Cheap at Hotrox at the mo, and I'm yet to play a bad one):

I thought as much re: Danoconcerns, seemed to be a similar deal.. And these only seem to be available in a few places, no real stores to try in.

Still love the Jetking but want something singlecoily and wonky as Casa Bonita guitar #2, but not have it play like a box of Weetabix either.

Spent ages online checking out all the Italias, Gretsches and the like, but few seem to meet this criteria. Double cutaways with singles and 50s vibes that are nice.. Probs gonna end up modding something.

Is double cutaway a requirement? An Ovation Viper might suit you nicely, used to own one, it was the best tele I've played

^ That's a brilliant idea. Lots of them in the UK too.

EDIT: eBay search says I'm talking ROT, but that ropey German eBayer with the hideous NUDE LADY Les Paul does have this beaut for sale:

Man, I bet it sounds and plays amazing but I can't see past the fact that it looks like a scrotum, especially that tan model.

TBH it doesn't bother me too much. I've always liked the Preacher. Guess the '70s were all about the ballbag.
