no, im talkin just let the natural grain of the wood show through a dark stain or something, i wouldn't cover it up with a fake flame maple, but thats your decision.

You can get the mahogany color with out it bein mahogany.

TRANSPARENT NEON GREEN yesss.

The only color for a guitar such as this.

Definately go clear Icey, green would have just made it a bit off putting, rather than something like satin clear which would have had a touch me quality to it.

It's not really an Alembic, but I do love the natural neck throughs.

Nick wrote: It's your custom made guitar so you know what you want better than I do. I'm just saying....in my opinion, green just wouldn't do a custom guitar like that any justice.
Does he though?

don't wanna be rude to icey, but he's only been playing..what..a year and bit? and already 2 full custom guitars??

honestly, i have respect for icey for doing this, but personally i liked the route i went, and most other people go though - try loads and loads of guitars until you find the sounds/features/feel you like the most.

Or you can just try and buy the guitar your guitar-hero uses - which is maybe what icey is doing, if so i'll shut up now.

But anyway im interested in this project goes, if just to see and hear it at the end!

As Icey claims, guitars in brazil are ridiculously overpriced due to the unfavorable exchange rate, so he has em made instead, since sometimes it works out cheaper for him, or at least more worthwhile than buying say a mexican fender.

Although really, there's been quite a bit of gear I've bought when I was younger that I wish I had friends who knew better tell me not to. Pointy guitars with colors I all too soon grew to hate, crap sounding digital fuzzboxes, hell I even bought a 100W solidstate Ibanez halfstack without knowing better.

All in all, I think with a guitar like Icey's, you might feel like green when you're building it, but there'll come a time when you think "Man, this looks wank". Less chance of that feeling coming on with a transparent finish on a beautiful neck thru bookmatched top.

I totall agree with you on the point about buying shit gear when you're a noob. I didn't really have any friends that would tell me what was shit or anything when I first started playing, all my friends liked Ibanez guitars and shitty ass Line 6 amps, and if I had had more money back then I probably would have blown it on a bunch of shit gear that I would hate and regret right now. Even by the time I realized that floyd rose bridges were annoying as fuck and line 6 amps sounded like shit to me, the guitars that I dreamed about were still drastically different than the guitars I dream about today! If I had had tons of money back then I would probably have blown it all on a high end custom Strat, which I would still like now, because I do love strats, but they aren't exactly my dream guitars anymore, and if I were going to blow more than say $500 on another guitar, it wouldn't be on another strat! I'm glad I was pretty much forced to learn what kinds of guitars I really liked and what features I preferred before I had the money to spend on guitars like that!

We've all suggested this to Icey, but he doesn't want to listen, so just let him buy these custom guitars now and if he regrets it later then he'll have learned his lesson the hard way. But if he does wind up still liking it 5-10 years from now then he has a kickass custom made guitar that is exactly what he wants!
