MOAR PHOTOS !!!!!
fender paint in this time period is known to do this. i doubt its a re-fin. if you do a little research on the Fender Lead series guitars of the time period most of them have the same cracklez
I remember reading somewhere that that problem was with only on color of paint (black i think) and that they had already seen the the problem by the next year and had fixed it. I also thought it was a problem that only occurred with Lead series guitars though I could very well be wrong.

I just love the idea of a les paul with a trem. does it go through the back?
50s or 60s style neck?
pickups are...?

That Greco picture makes me sad. I know I can't justify or afford one but I'd be surprised if I got through 2009 without buying one.

no, it's top-loading. i don't know what type of neck, i'm a dunce with gibsons. the pickups are fralins, it would've originally had dry 82s, but i got it cheap with no electronics.
and james, you can totally justify it. my greco is seriously one of the nicest and best-playing guitars i've ever played. it puts just about every gibson i've played to shame. i already want to buy another, probably an es-175 type. but, that'll have to wait a while.

Dear Haze,
Stop posting pics of your amazing white Tele. It fills me with envy and makes me hate you.
Sincerely,
Ends

Re: Jazz Bass
I've got some new strings for it and I've never been happier with a guitar I own. My only problem is the guage is so heavy it hurts to play for too long. The set I had on it were the black ones that were complained about previously. I'm not certain but I think they're Fenders and they're nylon tapewound. I actually thought the new set would be black too but they're a standard silver colour and much smoother. Here's a closeup of the two strings for comparison.
And now some before and after shots. I've changed the knobs and pickguard, added a thumbrest and covers and changed the strings. I think I'm done now. I might try the black guard again at some point but aside from some slightly scrackly electronics there's nothing I feel needs to be improved.
