You cannot get a Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster in the US before mid January. Fuck me.

I played the J.Mascis today, I'm impressed !!

Felt like a really solid guitar. The neck is satin and pretty chunky... not usually my thing but somehow I kinda liked it. Again it felt pretty solid and enjoyable to handle. oi oi.

I was most impressed by the pickups too... they seem to have the best aspects of the classic players p/ups but more articulate. Handle clean and dirty well just like a J.Mascis should....

Very resonant guitar and quite chunky sounding.... lots of mids but without getting too muddy.

The trem was a little clunky and needing some attention in terms of the angle of the trem arm (no biggy). I did a big drop bend and it went right out of tune. Kinda expected though. Half of that I reckon was due to the nut. The nut / bridge was set quite high (ala Mascis) so I would be inclined to swap out the squier nut for something more hard wearing and less binding. My classic vibe nut was same, just like a block of cheese. I guess a trem / bridge swap may interest me too but they seem perfectly acceptable. I do like a mustang bridge !!

The finish was excellent.... I don't know if there was a large shim in there but the neck pocket was a little crude up close. The could be my only complaint really. For a new guitar at that price, it's a steal !! I would feel a little bad modifying it. It's very nice as is.

From memory, I would say a little chunkier than the blacktop.

<3 chunky necks.....if it's a tad thinner than a Rickenbacker or Gibson it would be perfect for me.

Exactly How I'd sum it up. i'm a sucker for the thinner gloss japanese necks.... it's a step thicker than that and satin in touch.

I'm very curious about the satin neck, as I don't think I've played or owned anything I could compare it to.

I have played the actual Fender Model (purple sparkle) and it also has the satin neck. Very similar to current squier Jagmaster necks to be honest in terms of the satin feel. I am guessing the Squier version will be similar.

Played one today in Toronto.
It's fantastic. The things everyone has said have been spot on.
Definitely on my "want" list.

I watched those videos along with a couple others. The guitar sounds really thin and quacky in some of these videos.

Do you think that is just a daft recording setup or the .009 gauge strings the guitar probably comes with?

Another good one featuring the Rumble:

Anyone reckon it'll come down in price by a fraction within a couple of months of release? Unsure whether to go for it now or wait. Can't remember whether the CVs did or not.

It took some time for some of the early cvs to drop and even now some of the most popular ones are holding their price. Cheapest I seen this is £310

Its the guys image and everything, bless him. Its just too predictable, i'd like to see a shredder or a funk dude take this somewhere else. Okay, i know its a sig model but we know its capable of much more.
