It's a matter of preference. I've been on both sides of the argument myself and I've had my likes/dislikes about both types of finishes. At the end of the day I just like the way Nitro looks in comparison, prefer the way it ages, how easier it is to repair/take scratches out of, and to me it affects the feel/sound of a guitar, at least unplugged anyway. If I was doing a blind test of a Gibson/Epi les paul unplugged I probably could tell which was which quite easily.

Either way, this is one of those arguments where the grass is always greener on your own side of the fence.

I've heard all the BS about nitro increasing resonance. I wonder why someone buys a solid body and expects resonance.

yeah i agree solid bodys are plugged in for me the only time i play acoustically w/ a solid body is when i dont want to piss off neighbors by cranking my amp

but on the other end it is nice to be able to repair scratches but i like my guitar to look new and not age to an extent nitro can fuse to rubber and comes right off of stands

Not all stands do that melting finish thing. Ultimate stands use some sort of velvet covering on the bottom and have a rubber neck holder. I've also had good luck with Hercules stands.

Yeah in a perfect world guitars wouldn't get scratched, dinged, etc at all. But we all know shit happens no matter what kind of finish you have. Nitro's also easier to strip if you need to do a refin eventually.

that is a +1 in my book even though I havent refin'd yet it would make it a hell of a lot easier when i finally do.

The extra cost is not in the paint. It is in the drying and curing process. A poly guitar can be painted and cured in a day using UV drying. Doesn't happen with nitro. Add in the amount of damage stock guitars you'll get because it dings easier.

The one good thing I see about PRS is Paul Reed doesn't give in to the nitro bull.

To me, Fender is classic design. I prefer it over Ibanez and Gibson because I love their organic curves and rounded edges. Back when I was first learning guitar, everyone around me either started with a Strat or a Les Paul. There was just something about that Fender look that was more attractive.

I'm ready for the new Fender shape. I like how they experimented with the Jag Stang and Venus but I think it's time to put out something new. Especially with the basses. For a simple solution, why not a jazzmaster bass? Light Rail Coyote's bro made one called the Jackmaster and it looks and sounds great! I'd also like to see a new shortscale bass. The Bronco bass was kind of disappointing to me and it didn't live up to a Bronco guitar. It's time Fender quit recycling their bodies and take a chance with something new.
