The color is done. I got one run and one sand through but it is corrected, the color looks great, i will post some pics up when i get the clear coat on- perhaps monday.
I started work on the neck, reshaping the headstock and some sanding. Looks like some Nitromorse will come in handy here, it took a while to sand just the front of the headstock with an orbital sander. Im just a but concerned of stripper melting the edge binding.

Clearly it wont be identical but im aiming for 'close- on a budget' here!

I've decided to just sand the neck, its coming up good but a total bitch of a job. Where the maple meets the binding is looking fine, it was a concern beforehand.

There was a local luthier selling guitars called Max Frecknall, decent stuff but i always thought it was overpriced. But now i understand the pricing more, building a guitar can be labour intensive. When you add up the hours, materials and research £500 is quite a modest amount to expect back. But due to mass production and import no-one wants to pay that kind of money anymore, unless its a popular brand name.
My finishing is my weak point, i'd need a spray booth and proper equipment if i was to think of selling. Ironically to what you said i am very tired of Construction work, i'm even considering shelf-stacking to sideline my music and repairs/projects. I've lost most of my passion for construction and some days i feel really worn out with it.

Im just waiting to lacquer the body now, then its a case of fixing the neck on.
All the parts are here, scratchplate now fully loaded..
I decided to use a Burns Rez-o-matic pickup after reading good reviews about them (supposedly somewhere between a single and P90 with plenty of low end), plus it was going cheap. I may change the cover for a plain black one yet though. The Artec Mini Humbucker was larger than the hole so i had to file that.
I also attempted the 'M' cut on the headstock, its by no means perfect but decent to say i had no template. I finished the stripped neck in clear Danish Oil.

is that what you meant when you said the guard didn't follow the contours properly (at the lower horn there)? you could file the guard back a bit if it's overlapping the horn, no?Fran wrote:

The curve to the controls does'nt follow the body, its are more like a JS where the curve gradually moves away from the bodys edge.
