So, I'm supposed to just take jokes being made about my person, otherwise I'm a fucking baby and need to sort my life out, but if I call you on it you get offended?Mike wrote:Great.
Another "Mike is a constant prick to everyone" post.
That's three in a week, I'm done.
If it bothers you to be called a constant prick, then maybe you should not call people names and attack them personally? I stuck up for you in the other incidents, but in this thread I did absolutely nothing to you before I personally got called names by you, directly. That's pretty much being a prick. I can only take so much of avoiding you and trying to be nice to you and getting insulted before I break and say fuck you and call you out for it.
I applied the glue yesterday evening when I posted the previous, and have been letting it dry over night. I'll check on it when I get home from work tonight.Haze wrote:is that glue dried up yetI'm curious as to whether or not it will work and how if you'll be able to adjust the truss rod after its set

Didn't seem to work. Whatever that sound is, it's not the truss rod.
But now I have a bigger problem. I had put it back on the guitar but didn't restring it, was gonna get to it tonight.
It fell over earlier this evening and developed a crack down the back of the neck. Now I'm starting to wonder if the neck was just fucked and cracked internally from shipping in the first place, Guitar Center didn't exactly pad it in the box.
I think I'm fucked either way. I went ahead and strung it up, and it still makes the buzz on that string regardless. And there's a crack in the neck.
I see a few project sonics on Ebay for around $200, I just don't have that cash right now. I'm the meantime I have the neck clamped to see if I can get the crack to seal back up, if it goes back in then I can probably apply some glue and clamp it, then softly sand/re-clear coat it. I'm still left with a shit neck that makes this fucking buzz though.
God. Fucking. Dammit.
I want to love this guitar but it seems like it was fucked from the start.
EDIT: The clamping seems to be evening out the crack. I should be able to do a bit of glue and clamp it overnight, then reseal the clear coat. Still doesn't fucking help me with the buzz, though.

That sucks dude. Okay the only things that come to mind consider are:
I am wondering if several applications of watered down glue might be needed? Watered down enough that it will get all the way into the cavity and enough applications to buid up enough thickness to clog any gaps?
Another possible diagnostic test that might help before cashing out on a new neck: Try holding the pickups of another plugged in guitar up against the Ssonic strings - hit the buzzy one - does the buzz appear through the other guitars pickups? If so then that indicates a physical cause. If not then I'd assume something funky with the electrics in the SS.
As to the neck - hope the crack mends fine. IF you need another neck is the SS neck beyond using another shortscale neck and just plugging the holes and re-drilling to match the SS heel holes? I've done this kind of thing on one of my projects before with no background in wood working and it was not too difficult. Just needed dowelling, a hammer, some wood glue and a drill. Then again that may not be any cheaper.

Yeah, Basically I'm gonna have to keep putting in glue to fill this back up.
I can't get the crack seam to close width-wise. I got it to smooth out the one direction but not the other.
I'm tempted to just find a luthier but the problem being the cost. If I can just buy another project Sonic off ebay for $200, that puts a limit on how much it's worth having a luthier fuck with this thing.
I'll think about this for a while and will update this thread later.

I've just never had a guitar neck crack like that just from falling over, at least not a Fender.
I blame Guitar Center and their pretty much complete lack of padding at all. It was just in a simple cardboard box when it arrived.

just in a carboard box? From a proffessional guitar business? fuckinrageman. Hmmmm id have words with them. That crack sounds like nothing I've ever heard on a fender neck - would be good to see pics before casting judgement of course but I trust yours.

I've been going slow on this. I am mostly working to get the crack sealed up and sanded smooth, I last glued that shut two days ago and did not check on it yesterday.
Still pissed that it cracked in the first place.

I give up.
I filled the crack and sanded it smooth, I'm fine with that part now.
However, after three glue treatments, that buzz persists.
I'm going to take it to my local shop and find a luthier to check into it. That, and I'm gonna invest in a Duncan JB that isn't microphonic to try to just live with it in case they can't fix it.
DEFEATED.

Ookay.
It's fixed. I say this very carefully as I can't hear it doing it anymore right now.
I'm not really sure what fixed it though.
I did another glue treatment. Still there.
Ordered a GFS bridge Crunchy Pat humbucker, a pair of roller string tees, and a new set of Fender in line tuners.
-Tuners didn't fit, since I didn't have a set of "normal" in line tuners to check this on, and I didn't see any special "lefty" versions of them anywhere, so I just assumed Fender just put the same ones on their lefties as they did the righties. Wrong. StewMac doesn't sell them, GFS doesn't sell them. I'm just going to send them back, fuck it. So the tuners weren't the problem.
-String tees. I replaced them both, but when trying to adjust the truss rod and the one that held down the G and D strings kept being in my fucking way so I just took that one off completely.
-New GFS humbucker, actually sounds good.
After all of this, it was still buzzing like before.
I set the guitar down for a day. Came back and just adjusted the truss rod. Tuned it. Set it down for another day. Picked it up just now.
Buzz is gone.
!!??!!??!!??
Retuned. Lowered action. Still not buzzing.
WTF.
