if I were to get one of those black ones I would immediately swap out all the tan plastic for white plastic, throw away that stupid see-through control plate and put a normal one on there and it would be cool to sand/refin to make it a blacktop.

how I hate that shitty tan color gibson does on all their white plastic parts. the "tuxedo" effect is totally lost when they're that dark. it look likes crap. it's nothing like the '53 you posted on the last page; the p-90s on that are actually quite white.

the gold top looks awesome.

It's not meant to be white, t's cream-coloured by design and always has been. The cream used to be much lighter, now it has this pinkish quality mixed in which makes it too dark. Their humbucker mounting rings are still much lighter than their pickguards and toggle rings, but the p90 covers are full-on the pink stuff. They made it darker so that it'd still look cream like it's supposed to (and not white) on a brightly lit stage. Note in the two pics of that goldtop wtr just posted have cream (2nd to last pic) and pink (last pic) looking plastics on display under different lighting.

"The tuxedo effect" only stipulated that a guitar be black, so your hands stand out onstage, nothing to do with the interplay of black/white looking all penguiny. White pickups would diminish it if anything.

clearly they were considerably closer to white than the reissues.

and why would this be called the tuxedo effect? anyway... regardless of the correct "tuxedo effect" usage, IMO a bit of the appeal is lost with the use of the tan plastic.

I called Gibson today.The CSR told me there are no guitars and they won't be shipping any until late August at the earliest. It'll probably be even later.

$849 is the street price.

I called Wildwood and they told me that that Black one just arrived from Gibson.They had been expecting it in August with the rest of their shipment but it just showed up by itself a couple of days ago.They told me they have 5 of each color on order but no Goldtops.They said the Goldtops were all ready sold out when they placed their order.

"Hi. Here is an update from the USA Division. As of today, we plan to start shipping products around August 1, and the 50's Tribute Studios are in the production schedule for when we restart. The clean-up from the flood has been a very extensive and complex process and frankly has taken longer than we would have liked. It has just been hard to pin down an exact date because of how much clean-up we are having to do."

This week is our first week of production since the flood. We are still not 100% but hope to be there by the end of July.

Some really great committed people on the Gibson team made this happen. They work under difficult circumstances with many challenges. We honestly have some of the best people in the world at Gibson.

It is good to see everyone come back home.

I got another backorder notice from MF today. I called to ask what was up and I got a very friendly CSR who told me that they are getting 40 Goldtops on 8/31. He said that after those are gone they would not get any more. he said that my order was in the Top 40 so I would get one.He also said that there were 40 people on the waiting list. He said he had to restart the "FTC clock" on my order and suggested that I call back in the middle of August to restart the "FTC clock" again so that my order doesn't get cancelled 4 days before Gibson ships them.

Did you guys ever hear of an "FTC clock" rule before? The rule,according to MF,is that you have call at least every 30 days to confirm that you still want the item you have on backorder.

Never heard of it, but i've always been pretty impressed with MF's customer service.

WTF? they bring out a cool looking, affordable Les Paul model that's much more appealing than what they had so far, and then they limit them that restritively? I thought the reason for making affordable guitars is to sell tons of them. But not for Gibson?
