I swear you must have some kind of internal low pass filter in your head. All the pedals you like sound shrill and painful to my ears.

Or there's something in your setup which just bleeds treble to ground. Or your pickups maybe are dark as hell - who knows.

When you audition drive pedals, do you do so straight to amp or only in your pedalboard chain>?

When I was reorganising my pedalboard earlier this week I swapped out one of the pedals in my chain and noticed a real increase in treble in my overall sound, so I think maybe you're right, but I don't think the sound I have now sounds shrill - but maybe there is something wrong with my ears.
