yeah what i tired to say was it's stripped. the nut is still on the truss rod, but my wrenches can't get a grip of it anymore.
edit: if i broke it off, it means it's not there anymore, right?

Correct. It's stripped. It's probably a really cheap truss nut.
It's up to you, personally if I had just bought something and it broke that easily doing something so basic and necessary for the guitar's operation, it's defective and needs to get fixed under warranty.
However, you will probably get another cheap ass truss nut. Maybe buying that tool and a proper nut from Stewmac is the better option.

yeah it'll be the same cheap truss nut even if i get a new replacement guitar, plus the back and forth shipping costs will be more expensive than the guitar itself.
i'll try out the stewmac tools i guess. i've always wanted to try out their tools for no reason...
if it doesn't work in the end, this mustang can still be a cool prepared guitar for my noise set

What happened with this? I hope it went okay. People strip Squier and other Eastern guitar truss rod nuts because they have 5mm nuts and people use the nearest imperial measurement that fits. I had to basically drill through and into a nut on one of my Squiers to get it out. It was 5mm x 1mm

i'm thinking about changing its pickups to Lace Sensor-Emerald and Purple.
what's the recommended pot value for lace sensors? 500k 500k?
never tried sensors before...hope i'm not making the wrong decision...

I'd try some out first just to be sure. I had a gold and silver in a Jaguar and they sounded really flat and boring at bedroom levels. Rehearsal and gig volumes they sounded great though. Bear in mind that you can put in any Strat pickup you like!

In case anyone's actually interested in paying to ship one of these... just moved to Japan and picked up the Photogenic MG-200 from Amazon for cheap to keep me company until my other gear arrives by sea. Pretty solid overall -- only horrifyingly bad thing is that the saddles are incredibly tall. There's either an angled neck pocket or big shim and it's still not very close. Sort of understandable from a sales standpoint to go thermonuclear and ensure that it'll be buzzless no matter how inept setup people are when it comes to budget guitars, though. Neck and finish are quite good; can't comment much on sound until I get new strings and play through something other than the cheap amp I bought with it. Definitely worth what I paid.
