basically squier is trying to compete with the other budget branded instruments. that is the point of squier. it's reason for being. regardless of the quality, for that reason they have to keep the price low, and for that reason they have to label it a squier. they like it when people are used to the idea that they have to pay more for a fender.
cogito ergo sum...thing or other...

Let them be great guitars then.....Don't worry about the name on the headstock, the country of origin or any of the superfluous marketing bullshit. None of it matters a jot providing that a guitar serves as an inspiring instrument that you like playing & helps you to make the music you want to. Speaking as someone who owns Squiers and Fenders, I really have no preference. I love the ones that play well and they could have a "Fucking DoucheCaster" decal on them for all I care.

Even when the quality is the same, or superior.

Ya know, I still have a bit of a prejudice against Squier. It's been long held that Squier = crap... but this forum has helped me get over it pretty much.

That said, it's always been that when I see a band playing with Squier gear and they sound awesome, it has only strengthened my respect for them, in that sort of "man, they're playing budget gear and they sound incredible" sort of awe. I've never understood people that dismiss players based solely on the decal on the headstock. Listen to what they're producing and judge that.
Because I used to judge the gear poorly, those who played it well gained extra esteem in my eyes.

Its nothing new that Squier have made some excellent gear, ask anyone old enough to remember the MIJ Silver Series and later on Fender stopped the Korean Squier Pro Tone production because it was having a negative effect on Fender USA sales.

I own a pro-tone strat.
You can still buy a solid alder or ash pro-tone squier for like $350 all because of that decal... I love that...

I also got myself a NOS squier musicmaster vista for $250 a month ago because no one wanted to touch a pink squier.made in china. FOOLS!!!!! Awesome little guitar and every bit as nice and comfortable to play as the CIJ Fender Comp. mustang I sold to Billy3000 a few years ago.

Fernandes telecasters... amazing fucking guitars with top quality craftsmanship and they sell for $400 cause it's "fernandes" I love it. I don't even own a "Fender" anymore and I don't miss any that I owned in the past.
Guitars:
2014 American Deluxe Stratocaster
2013 Gibson SG 61RI

Totally. I would say in a blind test, if it weren't for the the satin finish on the neck, I wouldn't be able to tell my CP from my Squier Mascis JM and there's a $350 rift between the two.
I haven't seriously thought about buying a new Fender for a very long time because of the excellent, excellent stuff Squier has been putting on the market, these years.

Yeah that old Japanese Squier Strat I got for £20 off Gumtree beats the pants off the fender Mexi Standard by a country mile. I'm currently trying to source a Vintage style trem for it then It'll be perfect (I prefer the sound of the thin pressed steel saddles).

I'm getting a white Jag and changing the pickguard to black and installing filtertrons. True story.

Oh, and a Wilkinson roller bridge. I can't understand for a second why the fuck they'd stick the shitty Jag bridge along with the original trem placement after they carried off the J Mascis model so perfectly. What the fuck.

Which isn't to say they aren't awesome. I'd much rather buy a £300 guitar with all the usual deficiencies of a Jaguar than a £600+ one. MOD TOWN.

I still have that Mustang I bought from you! I took it apart before I knew how to solder well and still haven't gotten around to actually putting it back together though! I need to do that really bad! It's just been sitting in a gig bag in the closet for a while now.

Fuck, now I'm happy that I didn't buy a blonde VM JM already. No strat jacks to be found!!

Love those Duncan Designed JM pups.

I can't tell what color the second (from left) JM is ... anyone? Don't tell me it's white on white a la Robert Smith?! Or perhaps Daphne Blue? It almost looks grey to my (very bad) eyes.

OK that's a little bit personal (and unexpected). I was just trying to poke a little fun at the corksniffing of a budget model.

Would you care to elaborate why you think I'm a "low rent twat"? I try to do right by people as best I can. I like to think I'm a good person. You seem to think otherwise.
Shit! I guess I didn't catch the humour...

Provided you had been serious, your comment based on my aesthetic preference, especially in assuming that I'd even give a shit in the first place, is what would have come off as low rent (to mean gratuitous and uninspired) and twattish.

Again, as it seems I failed to see the humour in your comment, I take no offense and apologize for the one I made.

:)
Nae worries, we're all good. Sorry for the confusion. This is rather exciting news.

Personally I like headstock truss adjustment - really convenient. Then again I like micro tilt

Hmmm... Maybe white w/blackguard, black witchhat knobs and three filtertrons....

I am imagining this in my head and getting rather giddy.
