I bought a can of Design Master "Robins Egg" #792 at Hobby Lobby for my Kay Vanguard. I haven't tried it yet but it'scur wrote:Any way, give me some color ideas for this guitar. Maybe a pale robins egg blue?
supposed to work well with Deft and Minwax lacquer according to someone over at reranch. I'd test it on some scrap first to make sure though.

Smells like Rock n' Roll
I had purchased a 4p5t rotary switch for my 2 humbucker guitar build, but is so tall I would have to mod it to make if fit. The body I made is 1.5" thick and the switch was just under that. I looked around on ebay and found a 4p6t rotary switch that is considerably thinner. It is some old eastern european switch.
So I will have 6 positions for two humbuckers, what should I do for each position? Lots of options.

Went to the auto paint place and they helped me pick out some base coat paint and a compatible clear coat. If I can finally get a day with the proper temp I should be able to shoot the thing in no time. 5 min between base coats. then I have a half hour wait to hit it with clear coat. I think around 5-10 minutes between clears and it can be polished 15 hours later. went with the muted robin's egg. several pics to show it is not really blue or green, but somewhere inbetween

Wired the bucker one up and slapped some strings on it to see what I got. six way rotary switch 1. B bucker, 2. B single coil, 3, B and N single coils together, 4. both buckers, 5. neck single coil, 6 neck bucker.
No major problems with set up or playability. So Now I am ready for final sand and hit with some paint.

shot paint today. really liked the auto paint I got made. @70F, base coat was 2-5 minutes between coats. 20 minutes wait to clear coat after base coat. I had a couple spots where some dust got on it. so 20 minutes after base coat I did a quick 1000 grit wet sand then clear coated. 5 minutes between clear coats. the, 1 hour to dust free and 8 hours to wet sand. I had the gun set wrong on first clear coat and got a touch of orange peal. but kept shooting anyway to get a build up. will sand and buff tomorrow.

Thanks. It does look pretty good. I have a couple spots that I may touch up, but really only I would know about them. I had the base coat dialed in really good with my mini hvlp. My problem not putting the clear coat on thick enough so it didn't flow out well. It covered good so I did about 5 coats of clear and then wet sanded the orange peel down. I wet sanded 1000, 1500 to 2000. Two evenings worth of wet sanding. I used a polishing pad on my random orbital sander and used 3m rubbing compound. That did the trick. Then 3m hand glaze and finally meguiars ultimate quick detailer.

Getting ready to paint this guitar. However, I am re-thinking purple pearl. I keep thinking it will look too Ibanez-like with the black pickguard. I can go with pretty much any color you can think of because I am using custom mixed automotive paint. I still have a bunch of base coat reducer and I had to purchase 1 quart of clear (only used 80 mls). So all I would have to do is look through the color book and pick what every I want for base coat, because I have the rest of the stuff.
I do not want to go with white. Other than that I am open for suggestions/pic examples. Should I just go with the purple? IDK.
Seafoam green. But i think it should be purple if that is what you wanted. Your gut is usually right.
Nice Btw!

I thought of tv yellow and i like it for a tele or les paul esp. I think i would go shoreline gold or seafoam green. I always say seafoam green and then end up with something else. I do think it's my favorite color.

Thanks guys.
Pens, I have one of these so maybe yellow is off the plate.

Brandon, I think you might be on to something with the shoreline gold. Classic and keeps that vintage vibe. Might be cool between shoreline gold and champagne pink. I will have to look at the big book of colors at the auto paint place. THey were really cool there and everybody was interested in helping with the guitar project. They seemed to have a good time working with me on what product line I should use and how to get the best results.
