my carvin dcm1001 (discontinued) blew up yesterday after four years and hundreds of hours of use. i shouldn't say it actually blew up, but anytime a signal hits it with any sort of volume, it goes into "protect" mode and kills all sound. both channels dead, even in bridged mode. i doubt it can be fixed, but i'll look into that at a later date. in the meantime, i got this:

my 15" 2way wedges from carvin are still going strong, but now i'm a little worried. 4years doesn't sound that long.

what exactly are you using this thing for?

when i saw lightning bolt last month they had 4 crowns bridged together running like 10 cab's of all shapes and sizes in a big pile behind the drummer. it was all running into one guys bass guitar

just as a PA. i got the two wedges, the amp, a rack case, and a shitload of cables 4 years ago for like $1100 or something. i still say it shoulda lasted longer.

we used to have a crown ce1000 for the pa, but it died after st. jimmy used it as a bass amp for a while. . . NOT THAT THE TWO INCIDENTS WERE RELATED. IN CASE ANYBODY READS THIS THREAD AND IT "SOMEHOW" GETS BACK TO ST. JIMMY, I AM NOT IMPLYING HIS USE IS WHAT KILLED THE AMP. JUST USE IN GENERAL. PLEASE, STOP THE VIOLENCE.

Sticking a Bass guitar into a PA at volume is in general not a good idea.

Jimmy used a board into the poweramp and then into his bass rig. Not the PA.....Either way....Still sucks....Scares me as I have 2 Carvin poweramps.....I got rid of my Carvin speakers for JBL but 2 of my three poweramps are carvin....

yeah, it's a technique i've seen used by other bassists many, many times. it makes sense that it should work since those amps are supposed to be able to feed subs with super-low frequencies. i srsly don't think it was bass guitar that blew it up. . . the amp was 5 or 6 years old and just decided its day was done.

i wouldn't feel nervous about them going out on ya, mickie. if you've got a fuhrman (i've got one on order), that's all you can do to make any amp last.

As I have been saying for years, Carvin gear is crap. They use the cheapest components available. Even the metal chassis are cheap. I know this because they asked my company to build their chassis. They wanted me to use preprimed c.r.s. and didn't want any deburring of holes or edges, just strait to the paint shop. I turned down their business because I refuse to do shoddy work.

good point. the monster wedges i got from them are pretty cool. light, too. i'm just waiting for a cone to catch fire and burn my children alive, though. that's the kind of month i'm having.

all i know, though, is there was the bass player in another band i was in used to biamp through an old boogie rackmount and an early 80's carvin guitar head. why do others get away with such blasephemies while i get cornholed if i just turn on a lightswitch?

because you are a very intelligent dot. So when you do something lame, like buying Carvin equipment, expect to be crucified.

The carvins speakers should be OK (at least with an occasional input jack replacement..... But the JBL shit (including your mains) sound so much better....Heavier and more expensive, but better....
