i'm thinking i might get a decent delay stomp box, but i'd like it to be boss pedal size (maybe slightly larger) and in the $200 range. tap and/or memory would be cool, but i realize that's a lot to ask at that level.

any suggestions?

You should have bought my DE7, but it's sold now. Doesn't have tap tempo, but it's a quality delay for the moneez.

Get a used Boss DD-5 or DD-6.

I would say it depends on how important Tap Tempo is for you, if it's important grab a DD-5 and a small external momentary switch and you can tap on the fly the tempo whether the delay is on or off with no worries, with the DD-6 you have to hold the button on the delay to switch it into tap tempo mode, tap and then hold again before you can switch on and off - it's goofy and won't work in a live situation where speed is of the essence.

The DD-20 is a helluva delay and has a dedicated tap tempo switch which works on ANY sound, and 5 saveable sounds, you can also get analogue, tape echo sounds out of it aswell as Chorus, Flanger and Leslie sounds on the Modulated delay. It's the only delay I miss - it's AWESOME.

Doesn't have tap tempo, but did you listen to my demo of the Guyatone MD-3? It's in the demos sticky.
I really like it, has a really nice tone to it. And is small, and if I remember correctly, around $125 USD

I've got a DD6 waiting for me on me birthday (already tried it out "to make sure it worked" ). It's neatoskeeto, but like Mike said, the tap tempo isn't too practical for live use, and the delays trail when you turn it off which pisses me off.

I didn't know you'd gone for one - it's still a coolass pedal - my only gripe is the Tap Tempo - why did they go backwards after the ultra convenient external input on the DD-5? Why doesn't anyone ask ME? Why aren't I working at Boss?

Tweez sold me it at a great price cause he's awesome.

It's a really cool pedal, all the settings are totally useable, just has a few annoyances. I also love the way each of the 4 incremented delay settings has it's own tap tampo rhythm, so you can get cool dotted note delay stuff happening by just tapping on the straight beat when in the right mode.

It also arrived like that, which made me laff 'n laff.

Yup - that is an excellent feature of boss delays - tap the straight beat and get the offbeat craziness sorted for you.

What about the echo park? it seems to be the most feature packed delay at that small size. has the tap tempo. in your price range (although not cheap)
I cant say i have tried one but the website has loads of sound demo's and a video. http://line6.com/tonecore/echoPark.html
And i can vouch that the tonecore series seems to be fine (i have the verbzilla) there metal and seem sturdy although i know line 6 have a bad rep I'm yet to have problems with mine.

Though you may wanna wait for behringer to bring out there carbon copy of the echo park as it will probably sound the same and cost about 20 beans.

yeah i second the echo park. i have it and love it. tap tempo, really really great tape and analog sim, its got modulation, and its pretty damn sturdy. and trails with a trails switch. and its stereo. and its like $15o i think.
