I'm having a helluva time finding a fuse for my amp.
It's an 8a 125v fuse. 3agc i believe.

Anyone know some good online stores that stock sweet fuses.
Radioshack does not have what I'm looking for.

8A fuse? MANLAND! Fender doesn't let me use anything over 4A. I feel so... sheltered and naive. And blissfully un-electrocuted.

Nothing at an auto supply store or hardware store?

http://www.tubeampparts.com offers 7A and 9A fuses. Clearly they're trying to be difficult. You could play it safe and go with 7A. At 65 cents each, you could have a whole closet of spares if they blow more often.

Wait.... here you go.

Or just google "fuse 8A" and knock yerself out. :)

Naw... to clarify: by "Fender doesn't let me" I merely mean I use whatever fuse they tell me to on the back panel/diagram. :)

My practical amp-tinkering experience is mostly from doing lots of mods on my 135W silverface Twin and poking about in my silverface Vibro Champ, which are two variations on the basic layout shared by most other silverface and blackface Fenders. So my amp education is mainly from a ton of Web research plus experimenting/modding from a Fender point-of-view.

Up till today, I hadn't seen a Fender schematic with anything more than a 4A fuse. But while writing this I went looking and found one 180W Super Twin Reverb schem (six 6L6 tubes!) that uses a 6.25W fuse. Semi-manland. So I'll have to say that ... uh ... almost all Fenders through the 1970's were less than 4A, which is so un-definitive that it's barely worth saying. :)

Sloan, what amp are you using?

aha kewl.

i think it might be some Peavey monster with like 7 preamp tubes.

that does sound high.

yeah, the dude at radio shack was like "whoa, that's a heavy-duty fuse!" with a "hly sht" look on his face. it was funny. i just said "yeah, dude, it's for a GUITAR AMP."

sorry i haven't watched this thread, when i check messages from remote locations, usually whomever's comptuer i'm using doesn't understand that i'm a freakin' internet warrior and they get pissed that it takes like 2hrs for me to catch up on my messages. so i end up having to log out and it clears all the new topix. fagguestes i say1

SO I CAN TRY A 7A FUSE???

yeah 7A is ok but it may blow in normal operation of the amp. 9A is bad as fuses blow for a reason and a high ampage could allow whatever has gone wrong to really fuck your amp up.

ok, so i actually just looked at the specs printed above the fuse. they were way lower so i went and got a fuse to as close to the specs as possible and the amps working, i just hope it's not gonna assplodicate.

also, there's a dude here at the dq grill and chill, completely bustin' out dance moves to some phil collins/genesis song. hly sht. i'm watching him out of the corner of my eye. wow.

Not manland then?

What are the specs?

To recap, here's what's safe and non-explody: Fuse Amps rating equal to or lower than spec printed on amplifier (fuses will blow more often if you go lower than spec). Fuse Volts rating equal to or =higher= than spec printed on amplifier (no difference if you go higher than spec). The amperage rating is the most important thing.
