Hurb my man, I notice you use vinyl records for pick-guards in some guitar projects, any advice on the best way to drill holes in them without the vinyl shattering? Cheers.

I used a drill? no shattering. Buy a cheap modern bit of wax its more thin and bendy. good quality heavy vinyl is harder and probably more brittle.

well the test piece shattered and i don't want to have to go through the hassle of trying to buy a newer record and cutting it out and shit.

I used a band saw, a router, and a drill on vinyl and sandpaper with no problems..i suspect you just had bad luck. you can buy wax for 50p its no sweat of your balls if you break it. like i say make sure it's thin and flexible, not heavy hard stuff.

And do it slowly. Don't ram the drill right into it otherwise it probably will crack. Use a thin drill bit to start out with, and try not to drill into a groove.

Charity shops are your friend ElCapitan  Seriously, you'll find some good stuff too, I got several original pressing Blondie albums for a quid a pop in my local Oxfam.

Cheers guys, but I don't have the luxury of having a router and all that fancy shizzle to build me a new one quickly. I literally had to melt the vinyl around the pickguard outline and the cut it out with a stanley knife, then sand that shit up. I've got a mate who knows a bloke with a pillar drill, so I'm gonna try to drill the holes in like you said. Jebus, this project is turning pretty manland.
