So basically it's right down one edge? Why?

Yeah wouldn't it be less effective at keeping the neck straight?

no no no no,
there is like 2 1/2 inchs on one side and almost 3 1/2 inchs on the other side,
that truss rod slot is essentially the center line for the neck.
its a new design becuz it doesn;t need a nasty cover to cover up the slot nor does it need any shims or a skunk stripe to cover it up.
its all right there.
think of it this way, the truss rod slot is 4 mms wide,
apply that to the rest of the picture, then you will see that there is mondo clearence on either side.

I don't get it. Your picture has like a drawing of a neck on it, and the truss goes right down the edge. What's that all about?
And don't rosewood fretboard guitars not do it like that anyway?

not neccessarily.
you can find strat neck that have a rosewood board and a skunk stripe.
doesn't make much sense cuz usually youlay it under the board or if you have maple you lay it in the back via skunk stripe.
this is also unique becuz its a gibson truss rod style layed out like a vintage fender.
that neck line couls be really old. almost all of my blank look kinda like that.
